YOU ROCK! – SIMPLE STORIES – SWEET TALK – WENDY MEFFAN

Hi Magpies! We’re racing through the month and I’m back on the blog sharing two more layouts using  Simple Stories Sweet Talk Collection. My two layouts are quite different showing this collection can be used for themes other than Love/Valentines.

This layout  came about as I had seen the record player and ephemera pieces with records and my son loves to mix music and uses record decks. I started with a mixed media background using distress oxides, then I did some stamping over the top to bring in some black to compliment the records.

I had decided to make the photos black and white so they toned better colour wise with the layout. As there was a sequence to playing the record I decided to use small photos like on a film strip to get more in! I matted the two strips of photos with the B side of the 12×12 elements 2×2 paper and the B side of 12×12 Will you Be Mine paper. I added three vertical strips to the left side of the layout and distressed their edges . Then I machine stitched through them. I cut apart the 3×4 elements sheet and used the You Rock card almost like the title of the layout. I then added two tags from the 12×12 tags paper. I distressed their edges and threaded some bakers twine.

I fussy cut all the things from the 2×2 elements sheet that I would attribute to boys including  chips, boxers, pop, and a candy machine  and added them in clusters around the photos.

I had quite a large white space in the top right corner so went back and added some more mixed media and stamping and then placed the fussy cut aeroplane there.

I still felt the layout needed some edging a long rectangular pice and then halved it diagonally and attached the strips at top and bottom of the layout. Then I sewed along the edge to give a bit of texture. I then tucked the You Rock from the cardstock sticker sheet and I fussy cut the heart from the 2×2 elements paper.

I was very pleased with this more male themed layout from such a Love themed Collection showing how versatile it can be.

LAYOUT 2 – ALWAYS AND FOREVER

This layout definitely went with the Love theme of the collection and in the recent snow we were in the park and had a few sweet shots!

This time I started thinking I would put a border top and bottom and punch the edges using a lace punch as that always makes me think of romance! I used the 12×12 Adore I You and Love Is papers. Then I added some mixed media around where I was going to place my photo.

I decided to make my photo the main idea of the layout so layered up underneath it so it would be the most prominent feature, as we were in the park under an arch which had trailing greenery I used some flowers cascading down to the bottom of the page.

I added some more mixed media and then I cut the Forever and Always piece from the 3×4 cut apart sheet, distressed the edges  and  added some more flowers and some ephemera around it, and made a cluster in the bottom left corner.

I cut the I Love You This Much piece from the 4×4 elements sheet and then added flowers around it. I am a great lover of my big shot and have many small dies for hearts, flowers and leaves enabling me to add them to layouts to make small embellishment clusters. I then added a few final stickers from the sticker some decorative brads to the LO to give it some finishing touches, along with a few heart stamps.

I was unsure about using a Love themed collection but have found it very enjoyable and love all the layouts I have made from it and only one being truly Love themed. I hope this will inspire you to consider it and think outside the box!

I would love to see any layouts you create so don’t forget to post them on the hey Little Magpie Facebook page

Till next month , stay safe and happy scrapping!
