Xmas Furbaby | Julie Taylor

Hello Magpies & welcome back to the blog.

For this festive scrapbook layout, I couldn’t resist documenting my daughter’s dog sitting proudly in front of the Christmas tree – a true furbaby moment that deserved to be celebrated & also a real feat as she never sits still!!! I worked with the Candy Cane collection from Pretty Little Studio, which felt absolutely perfect for capturing that cosy, Christmassy feel.

I started with the Festive 12×12 background paper, which instantly set the tone for the page. The subtle seasonal design gave me a lovely base without overpowering the photo. Down the left-hand side, I added some date stamping, using a couple of different date roller stamps,  the date & a few words & icons. This grounds the memory in time but also adds a base that balances the busier embellishment areas.

My photo cluster runs horizontally through the centre and towards the right of the page. This placement allowed the photo to really shine while still leaving plenty of room to play with layers. Along the left side, I built up a vertical column of ephemera, tucking in lots of little pieces from the Candy Cane collection. To add even more interest and texture, I mixed in a few favourites from older embellishment kits, which worked beautifully alongside the newer pieces and gave the layout extra depth.

For the title, I used the “Furbaby” wood piece, which is an exclusive from Hey Little Magpie. It felt like the perfect finishing statement for the story I was telling. I also added some adorable paw prints from the Dog Icons pack, tying the theme together in a playful way.

The final touch was something I absolutely loved – hand stitching using the new sewing templates. They’re a total game changer if, like me, you can’t sew in a straight line to save your life! It added just the right amount of handmade charm to finish the page off perfectly.
