Ways with Washi

Hi Magpies, this month I chose to showcase different ways to use washi tape on my layouts. Now if you’re anything like me you have loads of lovely reels of washi tape & only ever use a small bit of one reel on a layout or occasionally use some to wrap a present!! & I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could use it in a few different ways. There’s loads to chose from in the shop, to suit all tastes, so go take a look.
For my first layout ‘just smile’ I first cut a piece of paper in half diagonally, to use as a base. I attached my first piece of washi tape using a T-square ruler, to make sure it was straight, & carried on adding all the other washi up & down the paper. I then added some stitching inbetween the lines of the washi. I laid a zip along the centre line & again stiched that to another piece of white cardstock. The rest of the layout is fairly simple, I made a photo mat out of a few papers, added some ink splats, to which I added these new, fab, exclusive flair badges & cut my title on my silhouette. I added the whole layout onto a piece of grey striped paper to give it a border.
My second layout ‘life today’ uses small strips of torn washi, which I really like the look of. I added layers of papers to the left hand side with torn edges, punched edges & some pleated crepe paper. I again wanted to use those great flair badges so chose washi in colours that matched the flair. I added the torn washi in strips, from the left hand side & sewed in a contrasting colour over the top of each strip. I added some more paper strips to the right hand side & added my photos, in a strip & one on the right covering them with small chipboard frames from the simple stories carpe diem range. I stitched part of my title & added the chipboard ‘today’ on top of it.
My third layout was a bit more involved, but I love how it’s turned out. I started out by misting a piece of paper with a few different colours of inks, I then added torn pieces of washi all over the page & then added lots of stitching, by this time I was thinking I’d gone a bit crazy & that it looked like a hot mess but I then punched circles out of it & it looked better.
I thought the page would look better on black cardstock but wanted to add some sort of a border so I added strips of washi tape around the edge of a piece of white cardstock & added the black on top just showing the edges. I added some texture paste, in a lovely metallic teal, around the page & added my punched circles, sewing through them in a cross. I made a photo mat & added my photo to the centre of the page, popping it up to give it some dimension. I added a few bits from the simple stories life in colour 12×12 fundamentals stickers & stitched, in yellow, all around the page. I finished off adding some faux stitched lines with a white pen, some splatters in teal, gold & white & another couple of flair badges.
I hope you have enjoyed my pages today & it will encourage you to look at that big stash of washi in a different way, until next time xoxo
