Vicki Boutin – Color Kaleidoscope – Part 2
Hi again lovely Magpies! I’m back with a couple more layouts using the gorgeously colourful Color Kaleidoscope. I’m absolutely loving using this collection, and can see myself getting loads of layouts out of it.
Say Cheese
For my first layout I was inspired by Julie Taylor and her bright inky layouts. I used one of the pieces of cardstock from the wonderful mixed media backgrounds pad, and picked out the colours from it – yellow, blue and green to use as my base colours. I used Distress Oxides to watercolour some plain white cardstock, and when it was dry, stamped circles in black ink using stamps from my stash. I then cut the circles out and used some matching stamps on my background.
I chose the Pop Dots paper to rip for the top and bottom of my layout, as the circles design on it matched my page, as did the colours, with a little pop of orange for contrast. I matted my photo (of my dad being very silly!) onto the Scattered Leaves and Side Note papers, and ripped one side to match the ripped paper on the top and bottom of my layout. I then adhered this to my background using foam squares for dimension.
I tucked some pieces of ephemera behind my photo, and layered these with the Phrase and Icon chipboard thickers. I then stuck my cut out watercolour circles onto my page in various clusters, using clear 3D dimensional glue. I found that this naturally gave me several areas for layering little clusters of embellishments and stickers, whilst drawing the eye round the page nicely.
Finally, I added the circular puffy stickers to the various clusters, and dotted puffy hearts from the Phrase and Icon puffy thickers around the page. I chose my title from the puffy thickers as it contrasted well with the main colours on my page. I love the finished layout!

Again, my layout started with a piece of cardstock from the mixed media backgrounds pad. This time I fussy cut the butterflies from the Flight of Fancy paper, and adhered them in columns across my background, using foam pads for dimension. I matted my photo on both sides of the Scattered Leaves paper and ripped a couple of the edges for texture.
I tucked some ephemera pieces around my photo, as well as some leftover ephemera from Vicki Boutins last collection, Field Notes. The two collections go really well together and it’s so easy to mix and match them. I also used some stickers and chipboard pieces.
Finally I added the title from the Phrase and Icon puffy thickers. The title really is perfect as I love this photo of my fiance and stepson walking together.
Well that’s all from me for this month, thank you for reading, and I’ll see you all next month with some brand new layouts!
