Vicki Boutin – Color Kaleidoscape – Part 1
Hi lovely Magpies!
This month I’ve really enjoyed working with the new Vicki Boutin collection, Color Kaleidoscope. It’s perfect for me as it’s bright and cheerful, and my favourite paper EVER is the Chasing Rainbows paper. I need to buy loooooads more so I can hoard it haha! So, naturally, that was the first paper I used.
Love You
I knew I wanted to use the Chasing Rainbows paper straightaway, so I looked for a fairly clean and simple photo to go with it. This one was perfect with the pop of red from my sons t-shirt. I cut the rainbow paper down slightly, distressed the edges, and matted it on black cardstock to make it pop. I used a piece of kraft notepaper from my stash to layer my photo onto, and some of the cut out paper and a tag from Vickis last collection, Field Notes, as well as a piece from the Beyond Words paper.
I then layered stickers, chipboard, and ephemera on and around my photo, and popped some red and white bakers twine in my tag, which matched the pops of red in my photo and chipboard. Last of all, I used the ‘Love You’ title from the phrase and icon puffy thickers.
Colorful and Fun
I couldn’t wait to use the Mixed media pad for my next layout! The pad is amazing, it’s thick, great quality white cardstock, with beautiful mixed media effects on. Some of the pages have gold foil effects, and there’s 3 of each style. They would go with absolutely any collection, and I loved them because they take the messiness and hassle out of mixed media backgrounds, and they look perfect too! At £19.99 for 36 sheets it’s amazingly good value and will last for ages.
I decided to go for something a bit different for me, and went for a linear look to this page. I layered up several of the stickers, chipboard pieces, and ephemera across the middle of the page to create a base for my photo. I then decided it looked way too linear and added some clusters of flowers and a few butterfly stickers!
My title was made from the gorgeously coloured puffy phrase and icon thickers, and just to rebel against all the straight lines I put my photo tags on wonky haha!
Please join me later in the month for some more layouts using Color Kaleidoscope, and the amazing mixed media pad!
