Totally Random (and chipboard!)
Hi all, Niki here. I usually work on a set of layouts in some way – either a set of photos from the same event, or using a set of supplies usually from the same collection, or a particular colour scheme. Well this time I’ve gone totally random. I have completely random photos and supplies from all different collections. I wanted to use up some of the papers from collections I’d already used most of which were Shimelle True Stories, Dear Lizzy Serendipity, My Mind’s Eye On Trend and Amy Tangerine Rise & Shine. I also have a bit of a thing for chipboard shapes at the moment and had three sheets that I wanted to use: Crate Paper Craft Market, Maggie Holmes Confetti and My Mind’s Eye Jubilee, as well as a pack of Crate Paper Embroidery Hoop wood veneers which I had no idea what to do with.
For this ‘It’s all good’ layout, I used the jam jars paper from Serendipity. I’d been saving it, not really sure what to do with it. I was thinking of cutting some of those cute little jars out and using them as embellishments but I’d just has the latest set of nursery photos and thought I could use a sweet image of my little girl. She is, after all, very sweet, and doesn’t look out of place against a background of jam jars. I cut around one of the flowers so that I could tuck my photo behind it with a couple of paper layers, and then I embellished with the chipboard shapes by My Mind’s Eye. I also used a couple of Crate Paper clothes pegs and a crystal flourish. I then embellished some of the details on the background paper with pearls – the pink heart, a label and in the centres of some of the flowers.
Again I’d been saving this lightbulb paper from the Shimelle True Stories collection also not quite sure what to do with it. I am often guity of saving fantastic papers like this for the perfect photo, which guess what, never comes along, so I decided just to go for it! I picked a very random photo of my little boy after my husband decided to put gel in his hair and give him a spiky hairstyle. I loved the speech bubble ‘hey’ which went pretty well with this layout and I was able to use it as my title. I used a few more chipboard embellishments, both from the My Mind’s Eye sheet and the Maggie Holmes one. I love using chipboard shapes as they give so much dimension to a layout.
For my Fantastic Golden Boots layout I used My Mind’s Eye On Trend ‘Confetti’ gold foiled paper as my background together with a large scrap from the Crate Paper Notes & Things collection. I’ve also used the Maggie Holmes Make a Wish gold foiled vellum. I’ve also used a cut apart sheet from the Craft Paper Kiss Kiss collection which is no longer available 🙁 I’ve used a lot of the chipboard shapes from the Craft Market sheet and the black frame is from the My Mind’s Eye sheet.
By this point I had still not used one of the Embroidery Hoops wood veneer shapes. I kept looking at them and wondering how I could use them on a layout. I thought they might be a bit random to use on a layout that wasn’t about sewing (I I don’t think I’ve ever done a layout about sewing…) but thought it was a shame to just use them as circles (you know with the bit at the top being hidden under things etc), so again I decided just to go for it and see if I could use them all at once on one layout. I chose a photo about scrapbooking so there would be a lose connection with something creative, and then set about arranging them on one sheet. I made sure I had some going off the edges of the pages to make the layout flow a little better and built up a small cluster to house my photo at the bottom so most of the hoops were still on show. I LOVE this layout! The background paper is Amy Tangerine Rise and Shine, and I used more chipboard shapes.
Sometimes an idea just jumps out at you and this paper from the Amy Tangerine Rise & Shine collection just screamed stitching to me. I used some metalic threads and sewed over some of those circles. It doesn’t show very well in the picture sadly so I’ve put a close up below. In real life it looks great especially when the metallic catches the light. Becuase of the busy background I kept my layout quite small really and again totally adorned it in the chipboard shapes from those three sheets.
And I have a final layout that I want to share, but should say that it’s already been shared in the gallery on UK Scrappers. Again I’ve used an Amy Tangerine Rise & Shine paper and a whole bunch of chipboard shapes from those three sheets.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this totally eclectic mix of layouts – what random stuff do you have in your stash?
