Today, American Crafts Whatevs | Julie Taylor
Hello Magpies,
Can you believe it’s April already!! I, for one, am looking forward to some brighter & longer days & that said have been enjoying using some bright, fun collections. This one, Whatevs, really caught my eye with the vibrant colours & fun sayings & paper good & groovy was just perfect for my photo.
While on holiday we visited this street called Spice Alley & it had stripes on the floor which were the exact colours in that paper!!! I first cut out the section of paper I needed & laid onto some black cardstock, marking where it would go. Then using some Vicki Boutin Where to Next Cosmic watercolour paints I splattered the copper & gold around the page, these show up great on the black, really striking.
I added my paper down, once the paint was dry, & sewed around all the curves using tonal threads.
I added my photos, in a horizontal strip, down the bottom right & added clusters of ephemera around them.
I balanced the page out with another embellishment cluster top left, adding my title up there using stickers & ephemera out the collection. I doctored some of the sayings as they didn’t match my photos but that was easy & just meant cutting bits off to make it say what I wanted it to.
I’ve added lots of small bits & pieces to build up my clusters, canvas flair, fabric tabs, fabric heart buttons, smiley faces, felt hearts, & the new dies to cut out some splats which I dotted around the page. All these items are available in store & really add to your page to make it your own. My secondary title, of the street name, I spelt out using Doodlebug Design Alphabet Soup puffy stickers. these come in a multitude of colours & are perfect for adding name places, etc.
Thanks for joining me today & I hope you have enjoyed my layout,
Until next time,
