The Long Journey Home – Simple Stories Let’s Go – Amy Kattenbelt

Hello Magpies, Amy here to share another travel layout using Simple Stories Let’s Go collection. You may remember a few weeks ago I shared a layout that was to be my first in my holiday 2022 album. Well today I am sharing what will be the last layout in that album!

I don’t know about you, but when I am on holiday, the journey back home often gets forgotten about. I never think about taking photos. All the excitement of the impending vacation fun has gone and the journey home can seem somewhat of a drag. When we go to The Netherlands, we travel by car. So it’s a very long journey home, hence my layout title. But this year, after 3 years of not having a proper holiday, I made a conscious effort to take snap shots along the route home. I took photos out of the front window of the passenger seat and have used these in this layout.

I printed out these photos in very small square format so they would all fit into the one 12×12 layout. They weren’t amazing quality photos so the small size worked well.

I started my layout design by hand cutting a wavy ‘road’ shape from the grey map patterned paper. I then used the stencil from the collection to add some distress ink to the background.

I placed my photos in the order they were taken into my layout, and then worked out my title and journalling placement. I thought it would be fun to record how many miles we travelled and how long the journey took us.

Lastly I had lots of fun embellishing the layout with the travel themed ephemera and stickers from the collection.

I love how the busy layout ended up. A great way to record the end of our holiday and something I will be doing for future vacations!
