Hello, Jo here today to share my Creative Team projects for August. This month I chose to work with Crate Paper’s newest collection ‘Wonder’.

Along with the ‘Wonder’ collection I used a sweet 3×3″ chipboard mini book by Fancy Pants Designs, Heidi Swapp glitter (it looks like the Teal is sold out, but there’s lots of other colours still available like the pink I’ve linked to), American Crafts white woodgrain textured cardstock and the cutest little heart stickers. I didn’t use the Elle’s Studio letter stickers pictured in the end, but aren’t they lovely?

When I was looking at the stock in the Hey Little Magpie store my eyes initially fell on that little InstaAlbum by Fancy Pants and the cork numbers from the ‘Wonder’ collection by Crate Paper. They were the inspiration behind this months project. My youngest son was going to be celebrating his 10th birthday at the end of July and I thought I’d make a mini-album of his ten birthdays. I also knew that I wanted to make a shaker card for his birthday using the WRMK Fuse tool and some Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Glitter, who says you can only use it on the Marquee lights? It’s the perfect weight and coarseness, which means it doesn’t ‘stick’ to the plastic pocket like finer glitter will do. Anyway, I’ll come back to the card later, let’s look at the mini book!

The little album comes with 10 photo sleeves, but I needed 11. With the WRMK Fuse Tool that’s not a problem, I was able to make up a duplicate (in fact I made two) from a spare 12×12 page protector (I seem to have loads!). I’ve made a little collage of my process, however the quality isn’t great as I found myself crafting late into the night, long after natural daylight had disappeared.

Basically I took measurements of the original photo sleeve and trimmed a piece of spare page protector to the same width. I folded it over to match the original pocket size and used the Fuse to seal the two sides. I then folded over a section to reinforce where the holes would be punched and fused that together along all four sides to match the original. Finally I trimmed the excess off the end and punched matching holes by aligning my new photo sleeve underneath the original sleeve.

Now that I had all the pockets I began to plan and design the interior pages. I knew that I wanted to use a cork number for each spread, fortunately they were slightly smaller than 3″ and fitted perfectly into the photo sleeves. I also wanted to use the ‘Hello’ self inking stamp, ‘Wonder’ papers and a photo from each birthday. In the end I stamped the ‘hello’ image on to white cardstock ten times and cut them out. This way I could use it as an embellishment in it’s own right popping it up on foam pads or layering it with other embellishments.

Once the basic spread was done I added embellishments from the Wonder collection; stickers, chipboard shapes, ephemera and enamel dots, plus those cute Hey Little Magpie heart stickers. For the front cover I kept it simple, using the number 10 again (I had just enough 1’s and 0’s to repeat it) and adding the perfect sticker ‘Little Memories’ from the Wonder collection across the top of the cork numbers and a little heart sticker. I used foam pads under the word sticker keep it in place. I also added three tassels from the collection to the top book ring as a cute little burst of colour!

(That ‘Made With’ stamp is part of the ‘Made with Love’ self-inking stamp by Crate Paper from their Craft Market collection. I just trimmed the words I wanted and stuck them on to the hearts from the ephemera pack.)

Finally let me share with you the shaker card I made for my son’s birthday. I used a 4×6 kraft card blank and covered the front with a piece of ‘Cute One’ paper – my hands down favourite from the Wonder Collection. I got my WRMK Fuse tool out again and made a pocket from the spare 12×12 page protector I used earlier, fusing together three sides, filling it with some Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Glitter in Teal before sealing the top. I stuck this to the self-adhesive chipboard frame from the Wonder Chipboard pack and stuck the frame to the card blank with some extra double-sided tape. I added the number 10 from the Wonder cork numbers pack with double-sided tape to the front of the glitter pocket. The ‘special for today’ tag from the Wonder ephemera pack was the perfect sentiment for the card which I adhered to the bottom of the frame, adding a Hey Little Magpie little heart accent on top of it. I added a chipboard arrow to the bottom of the card and a little tab sticker and enamel dot to the top of the frame. The red accents make a nice little visual triangle.
