Summer Adventures – Vicki Boutin Design – Sunset Beach Club Collection – Wendy Meffan
Here is my second layout using the beautiful Vicki Boutin Design Sunset Beach Club collection, which was the perfect choice for documenting an unforgettable day spent on Renaissance Island in Aruba. I love the variety of patterns on the 12×12 papers and the gorgeous colour scheme of the collection.One of the highlights of our visit was getting up close to the famous flamingoes, making it a memory I definitely wanted to preserve in my scrapbook.
To tell the story, I chose a horizontal strip of five photos across the centre of the page. This design allows the photographs to take centre stage while still leaving plenty of room for layering and embellishing. I began by creating a soft mixed media background using Ranger Daffodil Ink, adding a bright splash of colour that perfectly reflects the tropical sunshine and crystal-clear water. Once the background was dry, I layered patterned papers from the collection behind the photo strip, creating depth and adding interest without overwhelming the page.
After adhering the photos, I started building embellishment clusters around them using a combination of the laser cuts, journalling ephemera, and icon ephemera. Mixing these elements together creates dimension and helps guide the eye across the layout while reinforcing the beachy holiday theme.
To finish the page, I added a gorgeous acrylic title from the HLM July Embellishment Kit, which provides a lovely focal point and ties the entire design together. I also included several starfish and wooden word phrases from the embellishment kit to enhance the coastal feel and add extra texture. These natural elements perfectly complement the photographs and bring a playful touch to the finished page.
As a final detail, I scattered matte enamel dots around the embellishment clusters to create visual movement and add small pops of colour throughout the design. These finishing touches help balance the composition while adding a little extra shine and dimension.
This layout is a wonderful reminder of an unforgettable day in paradise, and I love how the bright colours, layered embellishments, and happy memories all come together to tell the story.
