Spring time with Shimelle
Good morning little Magpies,
I hope that you are all very well this month. I’ve been playing with the new True Stories range from Shimelle and have throughly enjoyed it. I think that the layouts are a bit different for me, this collection really got me to step outside of my comfort zone so without anymore chitchat lets get on with the pages.
For my first page I decided to channel my inner Glitter Girl, what with this being a Shimelle collection. I watched some of the old Glitter Girl videos on YouTube (if you don’t use YouTube it’s fabulous- our very own Nancy Sinclair is there too!) and picked up a few ideas from Shimelle.
I chose a very tiny green spot paper for my background and cut my photo to 3×3. This I backed with lots of the patterned papers, some as mats behind the picture and then cutting 3 tag shapes from the papers also to tuck in behind the picture. I added lots of stickers from the sticker book. These are awesome as they come in small, medium and large sized stickers and are great for layering. I also added some of the die cut pieces to build the embellishment cluster up further.
At the top left and bottom right of the page I stuck some red and white washi tape from my stash and some cream ribbon also from my stash which I made into a pennant shape at one end. I added some heart shaped buttons from my button box, along with some of the awesome buttons from the collection. I finished off around the photo with some of the hearts from the Pebbles Valentines collection – the flat heart stickers as well as the tiny epoxy hearts. I used the tiny alpha from the Shimelle collection – it comes in the sticker book – for the title and added a few phrases from the I AM collection from Simple Stories.
My second layout is oh so pretty. I loved the floral paper in this collection, you know me, I am a sucker for a flowery paper! I fussy cut the flowers out from the page to use as embellishments. Again I used patterned paper as my background. I picked a very old peice of Studio Calico paper from my stash. I backed my photos with lots of layers of patterned paper again, using my ruler to tear the pape to get a distressed edge. In the sticker book there are lots of flowers which I used all on this layout. I popped them all up with foam to give more depth to the page. This collection has silver as an accent metalic – which makes a nice change from gold. I do love gold though and have to admit that I wasnt really very sure about the silver to start with. Once I started to use it however I decided that it was a lovely touch and really enjoyed the different look it gave to my pages. I added some more of the wooden buttons and some lace tape to finish and added some silver thread around my buttons for extra sparkle.
Layout number 3 has a different feel for me again. I used more patterened paper for the background and this large penent shape to mat the picture, which I think has worked well. I added a large cluster to the left of the picture, which is made up of some patterned paper which was fussy cut out, cork embellishments, some of the ephemera from the collection, wooden buttons and a few other bits from other brands. The puffy stickers are from 7 Paper, the silver alpha is Heidi Swapp and the Thicker word is from Pink Paislee. I have used 6 tages on this layout and they are a mixture of Crate Paper ones, from Confetti and Craft Market. All the elements for the top cluster are from True Stories.
I love this 4th layout. The patterned paper in the background is the one from the collection with the rocket on. This was another tip that I picked up from watching Shimelles videos. If there are patterned papers with elements on that wont work with the page that you are doing, you can just cover them over. No one would think that there was a rocket on the page and the clouds work pefectly for this page about having a coffee in the garden in the sun. I did revert back to my love of gold for this page. I used gold thickers from Amy Tangerine and gold spray from Heidi Swapp. Again more of my embellishments for this page are made from the patterned paper. I cut some more of the flowers out, along with the coffee cups and the words that make up the tail of my ribbon in the top left corner. The other embellishments are from the sticker pack and the ephemera that comes with the collection.
My final page does use a peice of white cardstock as the background, but the page is so busy that I think that it needs it. I used the other floral paper for the embellishments here, again fussy cutting them all out. The photo frames are also from patterned paper as are the cameras. I think thats a great tip if you are scrapping on a budget, find papers that have lots of elements that you can fussy cut out and use to make embellishments. This collection really is brilliant for that. Even the lightbulb was part of a cut apart card that I have just cut out to use just that bit. The layout is finished off with the red and white washi from my stash, some wooden stars from Freckled Fawn and some of the silver glitter Thickers that go with the True Stories collection.
Thats all from me this month, I hope you have enjoyed my pages, see you all in July xoxo
