South Street Sea Port Scrapbook Layout -Vicki Boutin Design – A Paper Story Collection – Wendy Meffan

South Street Seaport in New York is such a wonderful place to explore, with its historic buildings, cobbled streets, waterfront views and plenty of character. I wanted to create a scrapbook layout that captured us in a bar in the centre having some cocktails.  For this page, I used the Vicki Boutin Design A Paper Story collection, which was perfect for bringing all the elements together.

I started with four photographs from our visit and wanted to create an interesting way to display them. Rather than simply matting the photos onto paper, I added each photograph to one of the tags from the collection. I then used the fun clipboard-style pieces from the Journalling Ephemera and clipped two tags to each clipboard. I really liked this idea as it gave the photos a fun, interactive feel and made the most of the fabulous ephemera.

I also had some of the vertical strips left over from the cover paper, which I didn’t want to waste. I arranged these centrally on the page, creating a lovely backdrop for the photographs and helping to bring all the elements together on the patterned 12 x12 paper No 11. The different patterns and colours in the strips added extra interest while still allowing the photographs to remain the focus.

For my embellishments, I decided to lean towards the gorgeous greens and mustard tones within the A Paper Story collection. I added more of the beautiful butterflies and floral elements around the photographs, creating little clusters and layers. These nature-inspired embellishments add plenty of colour and work surprisingly well alongside the urban photographs of South Street Seaport.

To finish the layout, I used the pale blue Thickers again for my title. The soft blue worked beautifully with the other colours and gave the page a lovely finishing touch.

I really enjoyed bringing all these elements together. The combination of the clipped photo tags, central paper strips, birds and flowers creates a fun, layered layout that captures the character of South Street Seaport and preserves some lovely New York memories.
