Small Details Discovered – Vicki Boutin Fernwood | Sheena Rowlands
Hi there Magpies, Sheena here again.
For my layouts this month I am creating using the wonderful Vicki Boutin Fernwood. I just love all the elements in this collection and the colours are fabulous too.
For this layout I knew the photos I wanted to use the moment Id seen this range advertised. But none of the photos were good enough really for a layout of there own so I wanted to create a multi photo layout and print each photo smaller.
Using 3×4 ephemera and journalling cards as the base I started to create a grid layout featuring 6 mini ‘layouts’. I wanted 3 to have the photos on, one with journalling one and 2 more decorative.
This format can look quite busy to to try and control this a little I kept to a colour combo of mainly greens and pinks. I kept the photos all similar in size also.
There are lots of embellishments in this collection so I went through picking out pieces to suit my colours and outdoor theme. I loved the gnomes and couldn’t resist using a couple togo with the woodland feel. The pink flowers were fussy cut from the 6×8 paper pad. As the cards started to come together I adhered them down.
To soften the background cardstock I applied pink oxide ink – Tattered Rose to it using the packaging technique. When this was dry and using a stencil from the Fernwood collection I lightly stencilled flowers in two shades of pink – Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick. Then added a few splatters in both colours. If you feel mixed media is not your thing don’t worry, I always remind myself that it is just a piece of cardstock and if I don’t like what it looks like I can always turn it over!
I have created a video of this process which you can find here on YouTube.
I would really recommend this technique when using photos that aren’t perfect, blurry or multiple similar photos. I hope this layout gives some inspiration for using this wonderful range. Do share your creations with over on our Facebook group.
Till next time x
