Simple Stories – Winter Cottage – Part 2 | Amy Kattenbelt

Good Morning Magpies, Amy here sharing another two layouts using the lovely Winter Cottage collection by Simple Stories. The first layout is a Christmas themed layout with a photo taken last Christmas day. My second is wintery snow layout using a photo from my childhood in the 1980s.

He’s Been

This layout is based around 3 large dovetail pennants cut from patterned papers, and one of the chipboard frames. I picked the papers because they were the most Christmassy of the papers in the collection, and also were different colours so they would have contrast with each other when layered together. I used both sides of the patterned paper called Merry and Bright and then the present paper called Seasons of Wonder.

Once I had cut my 3 banner shapes, I stitched around the edges of them with white thread on my sewing machine. I then layered them at the top of my layout. Next I glued my two 3×4 photos behind the chipboard frame and layered the frame on top of a piece of pink patterned paper called  All is Calm.

I also used a full length strip of this pink patterned paper at the the bottom of my layout. A few stickers and chipboard pieces were added to the frame. Then I created a cluster of stickers, Christmas trees with presents, to the right of the frame. I like how the sticker choice (stockings, trees and presents) reflect the subject of my photos.

Lastly I used a label sticker, some alpha stickers and some smaller scale tree and present stickers, from the 6×8 sticker book, to create a place to add my title and date.

Winter Wonderland

The last layout I am sharing with the Winter Cottage is a circular design layout with the paper called Winter Wonderland as the main inspiration. I even used the name of the paper as the title for my layout.

I cut a circle out of white cardstock, and layered this on top of the patterned paper. I then cut a tree shape out of mid brown cardstock to place on the left hand side of my layout. I drew the shape first on a piece of scrap paper, and then cut that out and used it as a template for the final tree shape.

Around the edges of the circle, i placed my title, which is from the chipboard sheet, and then I placed lots of little house stickers, and layered them up with some trees. Once again I used a Chipboard frame, but this time i cut away the sides and top of the frame to just leave me with the bottom part. This bottom part featured houses and a scalloped base. I actually covered up the printed words on the frame with other word stickers that I felt were more relevant to my photo. Plus I added some extra stickers and the cute chipboard deer.

I added some holly leave stickers around my title to add a pop of colours, and then used all the snowflake and tiny heart pieces scattered throughout the layout. A lot of these are gold foil and add a nice little detail.

To finish off the layout I added two bird stickers into the tree, to give the layout a fun look. Using birds on my layouts is one of my favourite things to do at the moment.
