Simple Stories – Simple Vintage Junk Drawer | Jackie Ashton

Hi Jackie here, with a layout using theSimple Stories – Simple Vintage Junk Drawercollection. This collection has such a beautiful mix of soft vintage tones, playful ephemera, and timeless patterns that it makes storytelling effortless.

I began by selecting the Timeless Moments patterned paper from the collection to use as my background, selecting the b-side.  The subtle design adds interest without overpowering the rest of the layout. To give the page a little more depth and texture, I added some stencil detail using the Hey Little Magpie confetti triangles stencil directly onto the background, while gives an extra layer of visual interest.

I placed my 3×4 photo in the centre on the page, layering it with coordinating patterned papers from the 6×8 paper pad. This smaller scale pattern works perfectly for photo matting and adds contrast without stealing the spotlight. I used 3D foam behind the layers, helping the photo to stand out from the background.

Once the photos were in place, I embellished around them using pieces from the bits & pieces collection. Clusters of ephemera frame the photos beautifully and help guide the eye across the layout. I also cut two small tags from the 6×8 pad and added them to the top of the photo cluster. tying them together with brown twine, allowing it to trail gently down the left side of the layout.

 

In the bottom right corner, I created a small embellishment cluster using a larger die-cut as the base. I layered it with smaller die-cuts to build interest.  To finish this cluster, I added a foam butterfly sticker, which adds both dimension and a touch of whimsy. The butterfly also helps move the eye diagonally across the page, tying the layout together nicely.

For the finishing touch, I chose my title from the foam sticker sheet and scattered a few small foam hearts around the page.

Overall, this page came together beautifully thanks to the versatility of the Simple Vintage Junk Drawer collection. It’s a layout full of texture, layers, and thoughtful details—perfect for preserving meaningful memories with a cosy, vintage charm.
