Spin Me Round and Look & Learn | Shimelle Never Grow Up | Niki Rowland

Hey everyone, this is Niki (@nikiclairecreates) and I am back today with two more layouts using Shimelle Never Grow Up. I have absolutely loved playing with this collection, it’s full of bright colours and fun icons and phrases.I had the 12×12 papers, the Floral Empemera, Mini Mixed Embellishments, Speciality Foiled Acetate, Puffy Stickers and Phrase Thickers to play with.

For my first layout today I have made a GIANT shaker pocket which is loosly based on a tumble drier!

My little baby boy (who isn’t a baby anymore at nearly two) loves putting things in the tumble drier – I find all sorts of things in there, usually shoes! He even turns it on. So I took some photos of him doing this and wanted to document this story. A large circular cut file by Paige Evans gave me the giant circular element. I backed it with the beautiful Shimelle Never Grow Up Speciality Acetate and then added a LOT of foam pads. I filled each section with sequins and wooden hearts and then sandwiched them in with a piece of white card. This created a giant shaker pocket, and the drum of my tumble drier!

I created the box elements of my tumble drier onto my white background and also added an on/off switch. My shaker went in the middle and I used Amy Tangerine Thickers to add a title around the circle.

I put my photos down in the left corner and added some flowers from the Floral Ephemera. I didn’t use loads of embellishments on this layout becuase of the very large element in the middle so I kept it fairly minimal. I adore how it turned out!

For my second layout, Look & Learn, I have used strips of patterned paper down the right side of the layout as a base for my photos. I did actually base this layout on a sketch which is something I don’t often do, but I’m glad I did becuase I love how it turned out.

On the right side of the layout I used a large strip of patterned paper which was leftover from the previous layout. I also utilised other narrow strips, including manufacturing strips. I also added a strip of the speciality acetate – I managed to stretch that sheet quite far!

Over on the other side, I added a floral cluster in the top corner mostly using the Floral Ephemera. I added in extra leaves, a wooden button from the Mixed Embellishments and some puffy stickers. I also added my title and journaling – a perfect place for these within that white space.

At the bottom I had an awkward photo, just the one from that day that was landscape orientation rather than portrait. It was challenging to make it look right together with the others, so I overlapped it together with library cards, Phrase Thickers and more floral emphemera – I think it worked ok!

I hope you’ve enjoyed these layouts, I really enjoyed making them and how they turned out. The Shimelle Never Grow Up Collection has been such fun to work with.

This is my last post for Hey Little Magpie as it is time to move on to a new adventure. I have loved my time with this team, where I have been for almost six years! Thank you so much for joining me every month for so long, take care, stay safe and happy scrapping xxx
