Shimelle Field Trip 1 | Jo Boland

Hello there. This month I will be using the Shimelle Field Trip collection from American Crafts. It’s full of bright colours and elements designed with children in mind. My boys are teenagers, so I stayed away from the icons aimed for younger children and focused on using the elements more suited to my stories.

Layout 1 – GCSE Results

The first layout I made told the story of my son opening his GCSE results when we returned from holiday the day after. I used the arrow side of the Going Up paper, cutting out three sets of the arrows to use around the layout, raising them on foam pads to add dimension.

I used the ruled side of the Seek Knowledge paper for the background, layered ephemera under the photos and added some word stickers.

I used a mix of the foam thickers and silver puffy letter stickers for my title. The yellow book is fussy cut from the Between Classes paper and the ruler is from the Measure Up paper.

‘Well Done’ Card

I used the collection to make a card for my son, he did amazing in his exams. The letter A die-cut is from Maggie Holmes Sunny Days, but everything else is from the Field Trip collection. The stars are stickers the tags are from the ephemera pack, the ruler is from the Measure Up paper and the star paper is the Stay Curious paper.

Layout 2 – 50 years

I had some fun with this layout telling the story of a floral display I made with my Dad and some help from my nieces and nephew for a local floral exhibition. I splattered the black cardstock background with white and gold paint. Added strips of Stay Curious paper (stars and rockets, which is the reverse of the manufacturers strip) and the tall countdown sticker. Then I layered up my photo with stickers and die-cuts and matted them on a piece of Going Up paper.

The flags are fussy cut from the Stay Curious paper and glued to a wooden stirrer for extra effect. The journaling card is cut from the Check It Out paper.

Finally I added my title using the red thickers in the pack, the constellation stickers from the sticker sheet and doodled around the edge with a white pen.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I’ll be back on the 24th with some more inspiration using the Shimelle Field Trip collection.
