School Life Part 2 – Simple Stories | Amy Kattenbelt

Hello Magpies, Amy back with you sharing another two layouts using the Simple Stories ‘School Life‘ collection. Its the perfect collection for documenting your school themed photos.

School Photo

I’ve used a strong vertical design for this layout, using one of my favourite papers from the collection called ‘Top of the Class‘. I placed a 3 inch strip of this alphabet patterned paper to the left hand side of a piece of white cardstock. To balanced this out I also placed a much thinner strip of star paper to the right hand side.

Then I added the scalloped border sticker on the left. You will find this sticker is not quite the full 12 inches, so I cut it about 3/4 of the way down and covered the little gap with a book chipboard sticker. To add more interested I also added an extra sticker on top of the books.

I used one of the smaller chipboard frames around my photo. To add even more interest, I layered extra stickers on top of the frame. Then I went ‘sticker happy’, and added lots of stickers in a vertical line where the patterned paper met the white card.

I added my title in yellow stickers from the Simple Stories Color Vibe Alphabet Sticker Book in Bold. I think I have pretty much used these books of alphas every month so far, they are awesome! To fill up a bit o fthe white space to the right of my photo, I added lots of the word stickers from the 12×12 sticker sheet.

Lastly, I added the banner sticker to run between my two sides, tying them together and breaking up the white space again.

School Life

My last layout was created using very minimal supplies. I wanted to show what you could create using the Page Pieces set. It shows you don’t need to invest in a whole collection. Maybe you just hav ethe one school photo you want to scrapbook. In which case something like would be perfect.  The Page Pieces pack comes with a title piece, several larger ephemera pieces and some smaller pieces. Everything you need to create a page! Those eagled eyed amongst you may also see I have taken inspiration from this months Hey Little Magpie challenge. There is a great sketch, and if you use it and upload it to the correct album in our Facebook group you could win £10 worth of points to spend in their shop. Check out the Facebook Group for more details. And now back to my layout…

I have used three papers, the B-side of the’3×4 Elements‘, a piece of the red patterned paper called ‘Ready Set Learn‘ and for my background I used the B-side ‘School Rules‘. To cut costs further you could replace one of more of these papers with cardstock. The diagonal striped paper, was actually left over from another layout. It measured 8 inches square and I stuck it to the middle of my background paper. I used a medium thick fine liner to draw around the edge of this paper to help define it.

I matted my photo onto a piece of the red patterned paper to help it pop against the background papers. Once the photo was stuck down, I added the title piece to the bottom of my photo.

I layered up some of the larger die cuts to the right of my photo, just above the photo and also to the lower left corner of the frame, as per the sketch. Then I added the pom-pom banner die cut to the upper right side of my page to create balance.

Lastly I added the little star and pin die cuts to my clusters for added detail. So that is it, a really simple layout created with minimal supplies, but pretty eye catching as well.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my layouts. Dont forget to pop by the Facebook group, say Hi and maybe join in with the sketch challenge (its open until midnight 30th June 2021). I will be back in a few weeks to share some layouts that I’ve created with a colourful collection! Take Care and Stay Safe,
