Polar Opposites
Hi Magpies, Julie with you again today. Hope you’re enjoying a lovely Easter break have had some spare time for scrapping! Today I want to share with you 4 layouts, 2 very simple, clean ones (for me anyhow!), and 2 busy, inky, messy ones that go together to make a double layout.
My first two layouts use the very beautiful Cienna Collection from Elle’s Studio. It has a lovely spring feel to it with soft pastel
pinks, greens, yellow and teal colours.“1
My first layout is called ‘Hello Spring’, and is of three photos of blossom on an apple tree. I chose a yellow cardstock and splattered some blush and gold Heidi Swapp Color Shine Mists. I tore some paper strips using the Adorable Paper and a few handmade papers from my stash and layered them together, adding them to the top and bottom of the layout. I then did a bit of stitching to keep them in place. I matted the three photos onto white cardstock and added some paper layers behind them, tearing the bottom edge for some texture. I used Confetti Paper and Tiny Notes Paper in the layers with a touch of pink cardstock. I purchased a die cut file off the Elle’s Studio website, they have coordinating ones for every collection, and cut out some leaves and flowers in white cardstock. I sprayed a few of them in the blush and gold mist, then attached them around the photo. I added a few pieces of the Wood Veneer Shapes, die cut the word ‘Spring’ and finished off with a few enamel dots.
My second layout, ‘Piece by Piece’, is again using the wonderful Cienna collection. This time I used most of the papers, cutting them to 3×3 and layering them together to form a nine piece grid. I added some more handmade paper, some vellum for contrast, and then the Bits and Pieces Die Cuts, Cut Apart Words, Cutouts Cut Apart Elements & some Wood Veneer Shapes for texture. The title is made using thickers from my stash in coordinating colours.
My next layout is a double page called ‘2 Cool 2 Skhool’, and is in complete contrast to my first two layouts, it couldn’t be more different! I wanted to go with a bright, fun colour palette, and these papers form Bella Blvd Star Student really fitted the bill! With their primary colours of red, yellow, turquoise, green and black, they really were great fun to play with. I started off by spraying and inking the background with Mister Hueys Mists, and added some texture paste through a stencil. When that was dry, I drew around some of the stencilling to define it, added some splatters of ink and inky circles, then my background was ready. This collection doesn’t have any die cut packs, but by cutting apart the papers, I made a layout that looked full of ephemera. I chose an Instagram picture took by my daughter, and layered it up with a few of the papers, tearing the edges to make it look quite messy. I then cut strips out of the Borders Paper and Brainiac Paper, and layered them down the page, adding some circles cut from the other papers and some of the Trinkets Stickers, overlapping and layering them together. This collection also has a great Clear Cuts Transparency Typewriter Paper, which cut out beautifully, to add some texture to the page. I added an Hey Little Magpie Exclusive Flair Badge – That’s Life – Kraft and Freckled Fawn Arrow Paperclips in yellow, light blue and black. The second half of this double page, I again layered lots of papers underneath the photo, but added a larger strip vertically on the left hand side and some other strips to that. I copied the first layout, but only put the small layers and home made embellishments below the photo this time. I added another Exclusive Flair Badge, and die cut out a saying ‘This Week’ using My Favourite Thing’s – Die-Namics Die – Accent It – Storytitles, and again added the Arrow Clips from Freckled Fawn.
I love how all these layouts turned out, and how different they are. I hope you liked my polar opposites! Enjoy those Easter Eggs!
Until next time,
