Photoplay Paper – Birds Of A Feather | Amy Kattenbelt | Part One
Hello Craft Magpies, Its Amy here today sharing two layouts that I have created using the ‘Birds Of A Feather’ collection from Photoplay Paper. Its a fun, bright collection with contemporary patterns including cute toucans and rainbows. There are loads of positive quotes and phrases too, perfect for all kinds of scrapbook layouts.
Dream Big
For my first layout I started by using the 2nd largest tag die from the Elles studio tag diet set and cut 8 tags in different coloured patterned papers. For extra detail I cut out 8 small hole tabs (also in the die set) out of a tiny branding strip of one of the papers. I used thin waxed thread to tie bows on my eight tags. Then they were arranged in a 4×2 grid pattern on plain white cardstock.
I used the Hey Little Magpie sketched heart washi tape along the top and bottom of the layout, and really love how this looks.
I matted my photo, which I printed in black and white as the colours weren’t a great match for the papers (great tip!). And stuck it to one of the tags with foam tape.
Next came the fun part, I simply embellished the tags with stickers and die cuts. This collection also has a cool 12×12 die cut patterned paper. I spent an hour fussy cutting the elements out whilst watching TV, and you end up with a bunch of die cut images for less than a pound!
For Tag 1 I used the ‘dream big’ ephemera piece, and a tab by Elles studio onto which I stamped the date.
On Tag 2, I punched two circles out of cardstock, and stuck a toucan on one and my title on the other. I used the red alphabet stickers from Simple Stories Color Vibe Bold book.
Tag 3 has my photo, to which I added a feather sticker and a phrase sticker.
On Tag 4 I cut some leaves out of yellow card using the Pinkfresh Studio Curvy Leaves die set, and used them along with the ‘Here & Now’ ephemera piece and a fussy cut parrot.
I left tags 5 and 8 plain as they had busy patterned already.
Tag 6 was embellished with a parrot sticker and some other phrase stickers.
Like tag 4, Tag 7 was decorated with yellow die cut leaves and phrase pieces.
Lastly I added lots of enamel dots to the tags, in groups of 3. I found that the Simple Stories Sunkissed enamel dots were a perfect colour match to this collection!
Best Friends
For my second layout I decided to use the stencil that comes in the collection. Its such a fun design. The Vicki Boutin texture pastes were a great colour match and I used the yellow and red paste to create my background. I have never used a stencil from Photoplay Paper before, and I was really pleased with the thickness of it, how easy it was to apply my mixed media and also how well it cleaned up.
I matted my photo in white and then in black to help it stand out against all the bold colours. After the texture past was dry, I added stripes of patterned papers to both the top and bottom edges of the layout. I also added a long sticker to the top and bottom.
Next I created a central cluster around my photo, using lots of die cuts, smaller fussy cut pieces and stickers. I created smaller clusters at the bottom right of the layout, which includes the date. And also to the top right of the layout I added some fussy cut circles and a phrase sticker.
My title was ‘Best Friends’ from the sticker sheet. I love how the black really pops in contrast to the bright colours and white background.
Thanks for coming to take a closer look at my two layouts. I hope I have inspired to maybe take a look at this collection as it really is fun to work with! I will be back to share two more bright and bold layouts with you in a few weeks. In the meantime Take Care and Stay Safe.
