Paige Evans – Whimsical

Hello January and hello to my first DT blog post for the year! For January I’m using the delightfully colourful collection by Paige Evans for Pink Paislee ‘Whimsical’. It’s full of beautiful rainbow colours and crafty icons, what’s not to love?

My first layout focuses on the 12 x 12″ Speciality Die-cut Paper, a great way to get the look of cut file without a Silhouette or other electronic die-cutting machine. I trimmed a little of each side, added lots and lots of foam pads to the back of the die-cut paper and backed it with one of my favourite papers from the collection Paper 16, a gorgeous rainbow striped paper. By trimming a little from the sides of the die-cut paper I revealed a colourful border of the patterned paper behind. I lifted up and curled the edges of the die-cut flowers etc to bring the background to life.

I love the foam letter stickers in this collection, pretty rainbow colours, as used on this layout and rose gold too, which I’ve used on my other layout. The tiny letter stickers are from the Sticker Booklet and I’ve simply popped each one up on a foam pad. I took inspiration from the rainbow paper and the floral details and chose some photos from a colour wheel project I’d completed as part of my floristry course. The cute paint tin and crayon pot are from the chipboard sticker sheet, they were perfect for this layout.

My second layout focuses on Paper 23 with the concentric semi-circles. As soon as I saw this paper I knew I wanted to cut around the curved edges of the semi-circles and curl them up. The photo for this layout is of my yarn pegs. The bucket they’re in had circular ridges, which went well with the concentric circles on the the paper and the colours of the yarn went perfectly with all the colours on the patterned paper. I kept the embellishments to a minimum because the paper already had a lot of colours and patterns. The lovely tassel paperclip is from the collection, the texture of the threads replicated the yarn wrapped around the pegs. I added my journaling around in circles, rather than in one particular area. You’ll also notice I trimmed the corners off the patterned paper and matted it on a sheet of white cardstock. I love how this makes the layout look like the semi-circles are stuck on the paper, when actually they aren’t.

I’ve used the following embellishment packs from the Whimsical collection on my layouts: Chipboard Accent and Phrase Sticker pack (paint tin, crayons, some flower and leaves), Sticker Booklet (flowers and leaves), Cardstock Sticker sheet (journaling sticker), Ephemera pack and Paper Clips.

Thanks for stopping by, I’ll be back on the 24th January with more projects using this collection.
