Open Book Project Life Kit

Project Life
Hello!
This month I’ve been playing with the Open Book Project Life Core Kit by Maggie Holmes, lucky me! It is absolutely full of pretty cards, so pretty that they are perfect for lots of other projects too, not just for Project Life. So in this blog post I’m going to show you four weekly Project Life Spreads, a layout and a very cute little mini book, all centred around the fabulous cards in this core kit.
Let’s begin with project life seeing as that’s the main purpose of this kit.

In addition to the Open Book Core Kit I used ‘thickers’ from my stash, mostly old ones although the cork thickers used on week 38 are from the Dear Lizzy Documentary collection and can be found here. The letter stickers are all by Elle’s Studio and can be found here. All the insert cards are from the core kit and the journaling spots and made from cut down Project Life journaling cards found here. Any other little embellishments were pulled out from my stash of Maggie Holmes ‘Open Book’ scrapbook collection.
So moving on…I knew I was going to make a layout with the core kit cards, but I wasn’t sure what the page would actually be about. Then came the inspiration I needed in the form of a chunky glittery chipboard die-cut word ‘love’ from the Jen Hadfield DIY Home collection by Pebbles. Although these chunky words are designed for home décor they all measure under 12″ in length and therefore can be used as gorgeous glittery titles on scrapbook layouts too.

The patterned paper is Crisp Air/Gingham from the Pumpkin Spice collection by Simple Stories and the other thing I used were two gold glittered heart stickers from American Crafts which were in my stash, however these from the new Maggie Holmes ‘Shine’ collection are a very good match.

Everything else I used on the layout is from the core kit, including the tags and the flowers! I simply cut them out from the project life cards and because you get several duplicates of each card I didn’t feel guilty at all for cutting them up!
In my Project Life spreads I always use the same design of page protectors, design A, which uses landscape 4×6 inserts and portrait orientated 3×4 inserts. This means I don’t use any 3×4 card with a landscape orientated design. With this in mind I went about making a cute little 4×3 mini book with some of the lovely little cards in the core kit.

I gathered the cards I wanted to use, some have a portrait orientated design on the reverse, so I simply glued two cards back to back with double-sided tape around the edges and glue stick in the centre. This also meant the pages were nice and study for flicking through. I used two 4″ ball chains which I ended up cutting down to size with wire cutters, some word strip stickers from my stash (Crate Paper ‘Craft Market’ and Maggie Holme’s ‘Confetti’ collections) and finished it off some tassels from the Maggie’s Confetti collection too. I printed out a variety of my favourite photos from the last couple of months and sat down at my desk with a coffee to make my mini book. Oh and by the way, that’s a Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Star Light painted with metallic grey paint. I love it!

The tassels I used aren’t in stock anymore, however there are these from Crate Paper’s Wonder collection or there’s a variety of charms and tassels in the Planner Charms section on the website.
Did you know that you can look at the complete card contents for each Project Life Kit on the Becky Higgins website? Here’s the link listing all the kits and here’s the link for the Open Book Core Kit. Very handy! (NB. If you find that slow to load use the first link and click to Open Book from there)
That’s it from me for this month. Next month I’ll be back with the base pages of my December Daily album to show you, giving you inspiration to get ready and prepared to journal your Christmas.
