Oh What Fun! – Pinkfresh Studio, Paige Evans – Very Merry Christmas – Wendy Meffan

Creating this layout with the Very Merry Christmas collection was such a fun, hands-on process, and it quickly became one of my favourite festive pages of the season. I started with the beautiful striped paper, cutting it into long strips and distressing the edges to give them a soft, worn texture. The distressed look added so much movement and warmth, almost like strips of fabric layered across the page. To add more contrast and interest, I cut thinner red-and-white striped pieces from another patterned paper and placed them between the larger distressed strips. The alternating widths and colours created a lovely visual rhythm that instantly felt festive.

Once the background was in place, I positioned a photo over each of the larger strips. This helped anchor the layout and created a natural flow down the page. With the photos set, it was time for my favourite part: fussy cutting. I took the 12×12 floral paper and carefully cut out the floral clusters, setting aside a mix of large and small pieces. I arranged these clusters beneath the photos, letting them spill out slightly for a layered, dimensional look. The reds, greens, and tiny details in the florals added so much richness to the design.

Across the top of the page, I added a scalloped border that I fussy cut from the border paper. The curved edge brought a sweet, decorative touch that balanced all the vertical strips below. Then I fussy cut a second border and layered it over the first, creating a stacked effect that felt playful and full of texture. To finish the layout, I tucked in bits of ephemera and a few extra fussy-cut floral pieces, adding the perfect final touches.
