More Hooray by Crate Paper | Niki Rowland
Hi Magpies, I’m back with two more layouts to share using the Crate Paper ‘Hooray’ collection. I didn’t have the whole collection but I did have most of the 12×12 papers, the Icon & Phrase Thickers, the Ephemera and the chipboard stickers.
Hooray is a birthday themed collection but I have managed four layouts with it without using any photos of birthdays. If there is something really themed within a collection then it can still be used…you just have to use it in a clever way and cover up the part that doesn’t work for you. For example if I had journaling cards that said ‘happy birthday’ on them, I used them as paper layers behind my photos, which covers up the themed part but still gives them a use. I do this a lot, even with non-themed collections. Sometimes there are phrases that just don’t work for me but I don’t discard them, I will find a use somehow!
For my first layout today I used the bright striped paper for my background. I cut a banner cut file from yellow card and fussy cut out a lot of cakes. I positioned them all along the banner. I used other embellishments from the ephemera and the chipboard and also added a title using words from the chipboard and some older Thickers by Paige Evans. I finished off with some paint splatters and some sequins.
For my second layout I created a water colour effect background using shimmery paints and the packaging technique. I cut a ‘time for tea’ cut file from white card and painted it with more paints, then I layered this over the water colour background.
I layered my photos with journaling cards and ephemera and added a title with those same Paige Evans Thickers. I added embellishment clusters in a few different places.
I love that this collection contains silver glitter. I love gold but the silver is a refreshing change and I really enjoyed working with it.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my layouts using Crate Paper Hooray and I hope this will encourage you to take a second look at themed collections, even if they aren’t quite the theme you were looking for!
Happy scrapping xx
