Mixing Shine On and Willow Lane
Hi there Magpies, Niki here today sharing four layouts using a mixture of Amy Tangerine Shine On and Maggie Holmes Willow Lane. But before I talk about those…have you seen there is a Hey Little Magpie Creative Team Call? This is a great team to be part of and even if you aren’t designing for teams already, make sure you give it a go and try out. I wish everyone who applies the absolute best of luck and it will be lovely to welcome some new faces to our team. Getting a spot on the Hey Little Magpie Creative Team four years ago was my ‘big break’ and I never dreamt for a moment I would get it and I’m forever grateful to Sarah & Lianne for that opportunity. So even if you think you aren’t good enough, definitely give it a go – it might lead you places you never even dreamed of xx
Anyway, back to my blog post! I wasn’t overly taken with either of the collections I’m working with today…for some reason looking at them on screen I just wasn’t feeling the love. I bought a few bits from Shine On and then went back for a few bits from Willow Lane after I started seeing some beautiful layouts made with it. Well, after my initial indifference, I cannot believe how much I’ve loved working with these collections! The two actually go rather well together and even though I’m sharing just four layouts with you today, I’ve actually made loads more layouts with these too. The layouts have come together really easily with minimal effort and I love everything I’ve made so far and I’m still going!
I think my favourite product from the Willow Lane collection is those pom pom frames. There were pom pom frames in a previous Crate Paper collection (Good Vibes) and I loved them then but these circular ones are even more awesome! There were two circles and two rectangles in the pack. On this layout I’ve actually trimmed my photo to fit within the frame and then built the rest of the layout around it.
I also absolutely loved those Crepe Paper Fringed Strips and you can see I have a pink one at the top of my layout. And I must mention the ‘Accent & Phrase Thickers’. Often these are made of chipboard and they aren’t that sticky, but these ones are made from FOAM. They stick brilliantly!
For this layout I used a Shine On paper for the page border, the pom pom frame from Willow Lane and the embellishments are a total mixture. I used quite a few bits from the Shine On ephemera to build up my stack under the photo. I’ve also used the FOAM Accent & Phrase Thickers from Willow Lane, the mini Inflated Ephemera from Shine On as well as ephemera from Willow Lane.
For my second layout ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ I cut the title on my Silhouette and also printed a Mary Poppins hat to sit on top of the title. The two papers used (the pink border and the black behind the title) are both from Shine On. I’ve used lots of Shine On ephemera on this layout but also used a few stickers from Willow Lane – in particularly the tea cups, as I figured they went well with Mary Poppins 🙂
I finished off with one of those cute bows from Shine On, more Inflated ephemera and a few sequins.
For my third layout ‘Bath Time’ I just loved those little critters in frames from Willow Lane and they reminded me of them looking in mirrors so I lined them all along the top of this layout and worked my title in with them. The multi alphas are Willow Lane and the bright page border is a paper from Shine On.
I cut the bath cut file in white which I painted to match the papers, but cut the front piece in pink Shine On paper. I’ve embellished with Shine On Ephemera, mini Inflated Ephemera, the little leather effect bows and tiny puffy hearts. Also from Willow Lane the Foam Accent & Phrase Thickers and the cardstock stickers.
And my final layout ‘Our First Week’ is a little bit different from my usual style. I used wood veneer words by Freckled Fawn, which I painted with a light gold paint, as headings so I could journal about our first week with our new baby. Becuase the wooden words and journaling takes up so much room on the layout there isn’t much space for anything else! But I still managed to get a fair few embellishments on there.
The page border is Shine On. I’ve made embellishment clusters using a total mix of embellishments, some Shine On, some Willow Lane. The most important thing was picking out lots of small bits so those tiny puffy hearts by Shine On were perfect.
The words ‘our first week’ are from the small Willow Lane Alphabet Stickers sheets – these are great for adding small titles, headings or sub-titles. I fussy cut some sketchy hearts from one of the Willow Lane papers and used these as embellishments too. The Waterfall Stickers pack was also great for this layout as there are four sheets of small stickers in the pack and I used quite a few of these to add little details.
Thanks so much for joining me today, I hope you’ve enjoyed my four layouts. Making these layouts has reminded me to try mixing collections more often. I’ve fallen into the habbit of only using one collection at a time but I really should try mixing it up more as I have thoroughly enjoyed doing this and love my layouts.
Oh and don’t forget to try out for the Creative Team call – good luck!
Happy scrapping xx
