Mixed Bag

Hi Magpies, Julie with you today! I would like to start by wishing you all a happy new year! I decided to use a mixed bag of products this month, and my first layout, Knock Knock, is using a couple of the new papers from WRMK Love Notes Collection. I have focused on the French Doors Paper as I thought it matched my subject perfectly. I coloured in the doors, using Mister Hueys Mists, cut the paper down and backed it onto some blue paper from my stash. I then backed that onto Gossamer Blue, Get Happy – Wonderful Life Paper, as I thought the wood effect matched the old wood on the doors in the picture. I distressed all the edges of the papers and stitched each layer down. I layered a piece of the WRMK Love Notes Ombre Fence Paper just off the centre, and put my photos on top. I added a few die cuts from the Amytan Stitched Cardstock Die Cuts underneath that layer. I cut out two of the doors, and put them on pop dots to the right hand sided, then added some misted wood veneer houses on top. I embossed two die cut keys so they looked old, and added a few stickers from the Amytan Stitched Transparent Accent & Phrase Stickers. The title is made using Amytan Plus One Foam Thickers.

My second layout, Puppy Snuggles, is using the new collection Bella Rouge by Pink Paslee, which is a beautifully soft, girly collection of pinks, mustard, silver and black. I again cut down one of the pieces of paper to layer on top of one another, but this time I just drew a border around the edge using a pen. I gessoed the background and using a plastic bag, smooched the Heidi Swapp Color Shine Mists over the background. Once that was dry, I added an oblong piece of paper to the left and put some silver  Texture Paste through a stencil over that and the background. I then cut lots of 1 inch squares from the 6×6 pad, and added them in a grid formation, leaving some gaps for interest. I layered up my photo on a few of the patterned papers and stuck it down with pop dots. The title is made up using the great Printed Transparent Alphabet that is part of the collection. I finished the layout by adding a collection of the Die Cut Ephemera & Silver Puffy Glitter Stickers to the squares and around the photo.

My final layout, This Is Us, was again back to using the WRMK Love Notes Papers, which I love for their subtle designs and colours, great for adding mixed media to! I cut about 4 inches off Count The Ways, and added it to the top of the XOXO Paper. I dry brushed gesso onto the top paper, making sure you could still see the text, and then used Texture Paste through a stencil. When this was dry, I inked in turquoise and green through the same stencil over the top of the texture paste. I used the B side of the XOXO paper, as the bottom two thirds of the layout, and again through a stencil, inked three feathers. I die cut another three feathers, and inked those in turquoise, green and gold, then added them over the top. I added some strips of paper and washi tape to hide the join, and put my photo cluster on top of that. In my cluster I have used some Gossamer Blue – On My Desk Screensaver, the XOXO Paper from WRMK, a few bits of paper from my stash, a black doily, a craft tag and a flair from Gossamer Blue On My Desk. I’ve put strips of the XOXO papers to the top and bottom of the layout to ground the design, and added an embellishment cluster to each using a Ribbon Tag from Maggie Holmes Open Book, and some Cork Hearts from Studio Calico. The title is Maggie Holmes Open Book Story Phrases Gold Glitter Foam Thickers. I finished the layout with some splatter of Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold.

I hope this inspires you to us a mixed bag of products!
Until next time
