Memories by the Sea Scrapbook Layout – Simple Stories – Simple Vintage Sand and Sea -Wendy Meffan

There is something truly magical about watching the sun set over the New York skyline, and these two photos from our sunset cruise deserved to be showcased together on one scrapbook layout. The warm golden light reflecting across the water, paired with the vibrant colours of the boats, made them the perfect match for the Simple Stories Simple Vintage Sand & Sea collection. The rich reds, deep blues, and vintage-inspired designs complemented the colours in my photos perfectly.

To keep the focus on the photos, I matted both images and positioned them across the lower half of the page. Layering the photos together creates a balanced foundation while leaving plenty of room for decorative details. Around the photos, I tucked in a mix of ephemera, stickers, and chipboard from the Simple Vintage Sand & Sea collection, adding texture and dimension while enhancing the seaside theme.

The upper half of the layout features a layered collage that draws your eye upwards. I combined patterned papers, chipboard embellishments, ephemera, and stickers from the collection to build clusters full of interest and detail. Repeating these elements across the page helps create balance and guides your eye from the collage at the top down to the focal photos below.

To finish the layout, I created a custom border by gutting a 12×12 sheet of patterned paper. This is one of my favourite ways to make the most of my supplies, allowing me to use the centre of the paper for layering while keeping the beautiful patterned edge to frame the page. It’s a simple technique that adds a polished finish and makes every piece of paper work a little harder.

This layout beautifully captures the memories of an unforgettable sunset cruise around New York Harbour. The stunning colours of the Simple Stories Simple Vintage Sand & Sea collection perfectly echo the vibrant reds and blues in the photos, creating a cohesive design that celebrates both the destination and the special memories made there.
