Marigold by Maggie Holmes Part 2 | Jo Boland
Hey there, it’s Jo back with another look at the gorgeous Marigold collection by Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper. The more I use this collection, the more I love it. The colours in the collection will see you through autumn with its warm tones and winter with its cold tones. My first layout uses all the colours in the Marigold collection spectrum.
Layout 1 – Together
I used a 4″ tall strip of the Dream Big paper (can you believe this is supposed to be the B-side?) and distressed the edges. It’s stuck across the centre of a piece of Bazzill Basics white cardstock, this is soft creamy white and works perfectly with this collection.
Next I cut houses from the Homecoming paper to match the colours on the striped paper. I also pulled out a house and a church from the 12×12 chipboard elements, a brown house sticker from the 6×12 sticker sheet and fussy cut a house from a card in the ephemera pack.
The houses were stuck at the top of the matching coloured stripe, some flat, some on foam pads. There were two stripes that didn’t have a matching coloured house, so for these I added a sticker and a label. The label is cut from The Good Life paper and I wrote my journaling on it. I added a memories sticker on foam pads and a little puffy heart from the puffy sticker pack on top.
I added another word sticker from the pack on foam packs above the photo and a black chipboard heart on top. The word tag has been cut from the same ephemera piece as the house. Below the photo I added a fussy cut camera from the Capture This paper, a puffy star and the Together chipboard title. Lastly I added some gold splatters around the photo cluster and the church on the top right.
Layout 2 – You Make Me Smile
My second layout using the Marigold collection features lots of layering and the cutest wee squirrel who came to see us after she’d buried her nut in a park in Bournemouth. [I used a sketch design created by Lorraine from GoGo Getaway for this layout]. Again I used the Bazzill Basics white cardstock as a base, then layered a piece of From The Heart paper torn to size. On top of this is a piece of Cherish paper with its edges distressed.
Each photo is matted on a piece of High Note paper which has had the edges distressed, some corners of the photos have been popped up on foam pads. I wrote journaling on a note pad ephemera piece which I cut down and tucked under the second layer. A puffy heart is added to the corner.
In the top corner I tucked a tag cut from The Good Life paper which I tied with thread. Also a stamp sticker, a word sticker and a chipboard bow.
Down the left side I created another cluster with a squirrel, a camera and a heart sticker. These are layered on half a vellum wreath from the ephemera pack and a house cut from the Homecoming paper. I used foam pads to create some dimension.
In the bottom right I made another cluster with the title sticker ‘You make me smile’. Again I popped this up on foam pads and added the other little squirrel sticker above it. There is a receipt from the ephemera pack, a chipboard house and heart, and half of the vellum wreath. I wrote the place and date on a label sticker and added three puffy stickers. They even had a puffy acorn sticker in the pack, so perfect! Lastly, I added stitching along the top and bottom edges of the cardstock and some gold splatters.
I hope I’ve inspired you to check out and use the Marigold collection from Maggie Holmes, it really is beautiful.
