Life in color

Yet again another month has passed me by… we are already a quarter of the year into 2016, Spring is upon us and I’m using the wonderful Simple Stories collection ‘Life in Color’ for my March blog post.
Full of a multitude of colours, this vibrant collection is bound to cheer up even the most melancholy amongst us! The abundance of colours including teal and yellow, to pinks and reds is grounded with Simple Stories signature wooden textures to offer a more homely feel.
My first layout this month ‘Hello’ uses a feature 6 x 12″ section.

The swathes of colour across this panel are then replicated onto the base of my layout using a soft watercolour effect.

Having picked out the key colours, I then added tonal embellishments including brads, along with coloured and text phrases.
Initially I was planning on using a black and white photo, until I came across this one, which I felt sat wonderfully with the green and duck egg tones. By adding clusters of these colours, the colourful photo worked really well in the overall layout.

And whilst you can be uber bright and colourful with this gorgeous collection, if you prefer to create layouts in more monochromatic colour themes, then you certainly can!
‘Snapshots’ uses a combination of daffodil yellow, perfect for this time of year, along with silver and grey tones.

I love the candid photo of Caitlin on holiday – her gorgeous blonde hair and dark, dark shades!
Like my first layout, this one uses a 4 x 12″ section to create a banner effect running horizontally across the layout.

Different sections of the journalling cards along with some of the selvages of the papers and wash tapes were randomly placed to highlight the banner. Machine stitching was added for detail.
Lastly I was brave and decided to retrospectively add some texture paste, something I’ve never done once a layout is finished… but after it was finished, I felt that it needed something more – I certainly won’t be so afraid next time!
