Let your inner Wild Child out!!!
Holy moly Magpies, it’s December already! Seriously, what is going on. I am sure I should be kicking off the month with one of the fabulous Christmas lines available in the store, but I’m not into Christmas at all, so I chose the new line from Pink Paislee, Wild Child. Wild Child is a collection in two parts, there’s girl and boy parts but they work together perfectly. I suppose it is a collection for children but I don’t have any and haven’t used it for that. I always like the challenge of taking a theme specific line and making it work for me.
My first LO is a basic grid LO cause we all know I love a grid! I started with the green Paper 10, and then a strip of blue & white striped Paper 12 under that. The black & white stripe is washi tape and some scraps from my desk. My title is from the Explorer pack and I used the cat faces from both the Boy Stickers and Boy Puffy Stickers packs. I finished off with some Nuvo Crystal Drops in Caribbean Ocean and Apple Green.
I’ve stuck with a grid LO for my second LO. This time I used different papers because they matched the dress my friend Claudia is wearing in the photo better. So the floral is Bohemian Dream, Abundant Paper and the black & white is one of my favourite papers at the moment, Maggie Holmes Carousel, Rose Park Paper and I love that one for making borders on pages so I have a lot of the gutted middles knocking around! My title is from the Girl Power Thickers pack and then I’ve used lots of bits from the Girl Die-Cuts pack. The #amazing flair is an HLM Exclusive. I topped things off with multicolour borders of Nuvo Crystal Drops, this time I used Caribbean Ocean, Carnation Pink, Crushed Grapes and Dandelion Yellow.
I scraplifted my own LO again for this next one. I copied the ‘Scrap Weekend’ LO at the bottom of this blog post because I love that design so much. I’ve copied that LO a couple of times now! I used the pink & white striped Paper 4 and at the bottom is my favourite Maggie Holmes paper again. I did a border around using Nuvos and this time I used Ebony Black and Carnation Pink. My title is from the Girl Power Thickers pack and I’ve used loads of bits from the Girl Die-Cuts pack and popped them on foam pads for dimension. I added in some other bits, there’s a fabric frame from an old Maggie Holmes collection, some Amy Tangerine Wool Pom Pom Stickers, the ‘family time is from Freckled Fawn, Doodled Rubber Shapes and I’ve used Puffy Stickers from various packs.
I had to use the amazing cloud Paper 1, it’s so pretty! I didn’t want to use the whole paper as the background, it was a bit much for me so I cut it down to 9×12 and mounted it on white cardstock. I did a border with Nuvos as usual, I used Carnation Pink again and Navy Blue and I doodled hash marks in between. My title is an acrylic word I had cut myself and the ‘good times’ is from the Explorer Thickers pack. I’ve dotted around various embellishments, bits from the Girl Die-Cuts pack and also the Girl Stickers sheet too. Across the bottom of the patterned paper I added a border of tiny pink pom poms which I had in my stash but you can get similar ones in this pack from Maggie Holmes Carousel, Mixed Small Embellishments Pack.
This next LO is a bit out of my comfort zone. I am really not sure about it and it’s all a bit busy for my liking I think. The LO is about One Tree Hill in Auckland and it’s a place every kid who grew up in Auckland probably has great memories of. The hill is a little volcano and it used to have a single tree alongside the monument but a protester cut it down years ago and in the typical bureaucratic way, nobody can decide what tree should be planted in it’s place, and nothing has happened for years!
I did my base design of the LO using various papers from the Wild Child Collection. Underneath I did lines of Nuvos using Caribbean Ocean and Carnation Pink. Then I took one of the fabulous Large White Chipboard Words from Dear Lizzy Stargazer and painted it. I was trying to get a kind of sky effect going on and used blue and white paints. That didn’t stand out enough so I painted the edges with black paint, things got a little messy, so I went with it. This is how it looked….
I kept looking at the LO and I just wasn’t happy with it. I think it looks better on screen than it did in real life, in real life it was just too messy for me. So I ended up painting the title black and I was a lot happier with it then. It’s still not my favourite LO ever that’s for sure, but I tried something a bit different lol! Which one do you think looks better?
So those are my December LO’s using the amazing Wild Child collection from Pink Paislee. Check out the FB Inspiration group later on today as I am setting the newest challenge on there and you can win Hey Little Magpie points to spend in the store! Have a great December everyone and I’ll be back using the lush Good Vibes collection from Crate Paper and I have been loving working with that one too!
