Joyful – Part 1 | Cocoa Vanilla Studio | Amy Kattenbelt
Hello Crafty Magpies, Its Amy here today and I have some more festive layouts to share with you. This time I have been creating using the beautiful Joyful collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio. I’ve been scrapping both photos from last Christmas Day and a photo from my childhood!
Fun Times
My first layout is a classic grid design. This is such a great go-to design when you have some 3×4 project life cards or cut apart sheets that you want to use on your layout. I started by selecting the cards I wanted to use. The Pocket Cards in this collection are such great value as they are double sided, with plenty of patterns and designs to chose from. I made sure to pick one that would frame my photo, a couple that I could add my titles to, and some of my favourite picture cards (like the super cute animals around the Christmas tree!)
Once I had my 6 pocket cards selected I then picked out some patterned papers that contrasted to each card. I cut 6 rectangles slightly larger than the cards to frame each one. I also decided to distress the edges of each card and paper layer for added texture and dimension.
My two titles ‘Fun Times‘ and ‘Family Fun‘ are from brand new designer JD3D Print. They are 3D printed acrylic words and embellishments that add amazing, unique finishing touches to your layout. There are lots of designs and colours, with new items being added all the time.
I added these to the upper left and lower right cards, and added some die cuts and chipboard stickers for decoration. I also added a fussy cut star from one of the papers called ‘Making Spirits Bright‘, which I folded to give it a slightly 3D effect.
I decided to print my photo in black and white so it wouldnt be ‘fighting’ against the pastel colours of this collection. I added a holly die cut to the top of my photo and some present puffy stickers to the bottom.
To the upper right card I added some die cuts and a wooden epoxy button. To the top of the picture card, I added a glittery puffy fabric star to the top of the tree, I love fun little details like this.
Lastly to frame the layout I added stripes of the striped paper called ‘Holly Days‘. and decorated these with a few die cuts and puffy stickers.
Wonderful Memories
For my second layout I decided to make a kind of explosion of a straight garland with all kinds of little details hidden amongst the branches. I started this layout using the B Side of the paper called ‘Very Merry‘. It is white but with a subtle matt gold dot patterned. Its a great stepping stone to trying to use something different than 12×12 white cardstock backgrounds. I also used the striped paper to create a border around the layout. Because I wanted the stripes to run both vertically and horizontally I did this by cutting 4 1cm stripes and sticking them on top of the background paper. I cut the corners into a diagonal to make it look a bit neater.
I then die cut a bunch of foliage shapes from lots of the patterned papers. I adhered them to the layout along a central horizonal line. I also fussy cut a bunch of stars from one of the patterned paper and scattered them thoughout the branches.
I placed my photo above the branches, slightly to the right hand side. I used one of the pocket cards to layer behind my photo. I added my title from the gold puffy title set. They are a gloriously shiny bright yellow gold, perfect for Christmas! I then decorated around the photo and title with some ephemera pieces.
The part I enjoyed most was adding some ephemera and stickers amongst the layered branches. Isn’t this fox just the cutest thing! I added some of the gold chipboard and puffy sticker stars too. Lastly I finished the layout off with a splattering of watered down white acrylic paint.
Thank you for coming to take a closer look at these two layouts. I hope they have inspired you to get creative and maybe scrap some festive photos. We would love to see them over in our Facebook group! I will be back in a few weeks to share more creations using this Joyful collection. Until then, Take Care and Stay Safe,
