January skies…. by Heidi Swapp xox

Hey my lovely magpie friends,
Today I am going to do something very different for me and just work with one collection.  That collection is September Skies by Heidi Swapp and these are my pages for January. I hope you like them.

I decided to limit myself to the one collection this month as a bit of a challenge to myself. I love playing around with different collections and so much of my enjoyment in scrapping comes from finding little bits of this and that and seeing what goes together. I was a bit worried that sticking to the one collection would mean that I got bored quickly but wanted to give it a try with this gorgeous collection.
I really loved the touches of navy in these papers and embellishments. Navy doesnt appear much in the scrapbooking world but I really wish it would – its so much fun to work with.
For my first layut I cut strips of different papers I wanted, so I could run the strips dwn one side to create a layered cluster.  I die cut a doily shape from some navy cardstock and used the rest of the card to back the layout onto.  My embellishments all came from the ephemera pack which isnt in stock right now but is really awesome as it has paper, vellum and plastic icons in it and is super cute. You could use the Maggie Holmes flowers instead.

The next layout is more of the same. That I think is the biggest reason that I don’t tend to stick all to one collection. Everything starts to look very similar. If you are working on a mini album or something that can be a good thing though and maybe that’s what I’ll do next time I decide to stay with one collection.

I did more mixed media with this one and added texture paste in white and a black grit to my white cardstock background, after adding mists in the same colours as those in the papers. I also inked some flowers in my stash bright red to make the layout pop.

For the next page I’ve again layered the papers up behind the picture but I’ve added lace and one of those swirly pearl embellishments you can get to help form the vertical line. To highlight the horizontal I’ve used washi which I’ve had for years, since we were Sarah’s Cards! I used the stamp set from the collection on this layout.IMG_20150109_202215IMG_20150109_202123
I hope you like my layouts this month and get some inspiration for how to use the September Skies collection. I don’t think I’ll be limiting myself  to one collection again. It was still fun but a lot harder than I thought it would be to make layouts. How about all of you. Do you prefer working with one collection or taking bits from all different ones? Pleas  let me know in the comments below.
See you next month and I hope you all have a fabulously crafty 2015! Sarah and Lianne are at CHA this week picking lots of lovely goodies for us to obsess over for the rest of the year!
