January 2022 Challenge – Tic Tac Toe

Happy New Year! It’s not only the start of a new year, but the start of a new month…which means a new Hey Little Magpie challenge! This month we would like you to create a layout using the Tic Tac Toe board below.

If you are new to this type of challenge, allow me to explain…

You simply pick a line of 3 elements, which runs either vertically, horizontally or diagonally (from corner to opposite corner) and you must use these 3 elements on your layout. So for example you could use the central vertical line of ‘Washi’, ‘Scalloped Border’ and ‘Aqua’. There are actually 8 different combinations you can pick for this challenge!

I have created an example layout. I decided to pick the diagonal line that runs from the top left corner down to the lower right corner. This gave me the following 3 elements that I had to use on my layout:

• The word ‘fun’ – I used an Amelia Creates cutfile for my title that says ‘Autumn Fun’. I used Distress Oxide to colour the solid letter parts of the word ‘FUN’ for extra emphasis.
• Scalloped Border – I used a scalloped border punch around all the edges of my background patterned paper and then layered it onto a second piece on contrasting patterned paper.
• 2+ Photos – This means use 2 or more photos. I used two photo that I printed slightly smaller than 3×4.

For this layout I also used the Autumn die cut pack from Elle’s Studio which contains lots of eye catching leaves, and I used some JD3D white hearts to finish off the layout.

Julie has also produced a beautiful example layout for the challenge. She selected the bottom horizontal line, and used Buttons, Aqua and 2 photo on her layout. She was also inspired to use the word ‘fun’ on the layout too.

You have until midnight January 31st 2022 to create your layout and upload it to our Hey Little Magpie Chat and Inspiration group on Facebook. You need to make sure to upload it to the correct album within the group. It would be great if you could also let us know which 3 element line you used too! We will choose a winner at random and 1,000 Magpie points will be added to their Hey Little Magpie account.
