I've got a Crush on You
Hi Magpies, Niki here, back today with the lovely We R Memory Keepers Crush collection. ‘Crush’ is a Valentines collection but seemed to hit the stores later than other Valentine themed collections so have perhaps been slightly overlooked. On the whole I don’t used overly themed products but I am usually drawn to the Valentines collections, mainly because I love pink and hearts, and Crush did not disappoint.
I usually buy all the 12×12 papers in a collection but I managed to control myself this time and went for the 6×6 paper pack and only a few 12x12s.
My first layout, Morning Cup, used the ‘Hypnotized’ paper which was extremely bold on one side. It seemed a shame not to use it but it was too busy to use as a whole background. I therefore cut a piece of white card to 11.5″ square, and fussy cut around the black chevrons, then slotted my white card though the chevrons. This way I kept the bright colours around the edge and the black and white chevrons across my layout. I’ve embelished with Die-Cut Ephemer, Gold Foil Thickers and metal clips, all of which I have used throughout my layouts.
For ‘Sandy Toes’ I cut a heart burst cut file on my Silhouette machine, then back-filled the large heart with a pattern from the 6×6 paper pad. I then mounted the whole thing on another piece of very busy paper from the Crush collection. Again I wouldn’t have used this paper (Hearts a Glow) as a background by itself as it was just to bold and busy, but with just the edge showing and small amounts through the holes, it is much more useable.
For ‘Hello’ I began by using some Heidi Swapp embossing paste through a stencil, then I layered several sheets of the 6×6 paper pad down the middle.
For ‘Tangled’ I used an older background paper, which I covered with the gorgous glittery acetate from the Crate Paper Hello Love collection, and cut the hearts on my Silhouette. This particular cut file, added stitching detail around each heart and in a moment of madness I decided to handstitch through all the holes. I regreted this as it took me about 6 hours in total. It looks good though and I had recently been thinking I ought to do more stitching on my layouts and I certainly did lots here! (that’ll probably be it for six months or more now lol!). I embellished with the ephemera and also used some glittered heart stickers from the Hello Love collection.
I really loved this particular sheet of paper in the Crush collection: it’s called Key to My Heart and has loads of strips of differet patterns all over it. I used it from my 6×6 pad though so my strips were really quite small. I cut up both sheets from the pad so all the strips were separate and then I arraned them on my page in an ombre style, light colours at the top and gradually getting darker as they went down the page. The block of strips on the left wasn’t quite enough on it’s own so I added extra ones down the right side.
And finally, another super busy sheet of paper from Crush that I loved but struggled to use as a background. I picked it up several times and put it back down again, before I finally decided on adding a large white piece of card to build my layout on, rather than straight onto the pattern. This worked really well and I’m happy with the result.
And not a single Valentines layout was made with this Valentine’s collection (Ok a couple were of a romantic short-break to Florence but still).
Happy scrapping xx
