It’s a Snow Day, Hey Little Magpie Embellishment Kit | Julie Taylor

For this wintery scrapbook layout I had so much fun diving into the January Hey Little Magpie Embellishment Kit,  which is packed full of gorgeous cold-weather details and cosy textures. From delicate snowflake acrylic pieces and fluffy white clouds, to a statement fabric snowflake patch, pompom trim and soft ribbons, this kit really captures the magic of winter.

I started by creating a soft, icy background. Using Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink, I gently blended colour across my cardstock, keeping it light and airy to mimic a snowy sky. Once the ink was dry, I layered in extra interest by stencilling over the top with the Arden Creative Studio Distressed Diamond stencil, using the same ink to add subtle texture without overpowering the page. To enhance that frosty feel even more, I added the Winter Stories rub-ons from 49 and Market, which instantly “snowed up” the background and brought in extra detail and depth.

Next, I added vertical strips of patterned paper to ground the design and give the layout structure. These strips also created the perfect base for incorporating the fabric trims from the kit. I layered in the pompom and ribbon trims and stitched them directly onto the page using my sewing machine. Not only does this add lovely texture, but the stitching also brings a cosy, handmade feel that works beautifully with the winter theme.

All of these layers created plenty of little pockets and tuck-in areas, making it easy to nestle in the snowflake perspectives, fluffy clouds and other embellishments from the kit. I love how everything works together to create a layout that feels soft, dimensional and full of winter charm.
