It's A Cover Up – Make Your Own Planner Cover

Hey there Magpies! Today I have a super fun and easy planner DIY for you! As you well know, one of my all-time favourite things about The Happy Planner is how customisable it is. Right down to the cover! You can pop different covers on and off the discs whenever you like but what if you want to make your own cover?

Well, now you can! Thanks to this new Create Your Own Custom Cover pack! Sized for the Classic planner, this pack contains two plastic covers with slip in sections for your own photos, papers and designs. An absolute doddle to use, all you need are your favourite materials and a paper trimmer. Oh and a pencil!

I absolutely love peonies so when I saw this fantastic paper from Dear Lizzy’s It’s All Good American Crafts line I could not resist! The bold blooms of the Ta-Dah! Paper will be the front and back of my cover.

I wanted something similar but with a bit of contrast for the inside of the covers. This is optional as most papers are double-sided. So if you like both sides, you don’t have to add another sheet. But I wanted to mix it up and go from blooms to stripes! I used the backside of the Easy As Pie Paper again from the American Crafts Dear Lizzy It’s All Good line. For reference, the front looks like this. I know! It seems like a waste but I picked up an extra sheet so I could use all the fun journaling cards and paper elements from the front side.

How To Make Your Cover

Now, this is the easy part! Step one, use the card stock that comes inside the Create Your Own Custom Cover pack as a measurement guide on your paper. I used my Hey Little Magpie pencil to make light marks at each corner so I knew where to trim.

Step two, grab that paper trimmer! Cut your paper to size and keep any off cuts for other projects. If you don’t have a trimmer don’t worry you could use a pair of scissors but I’d recommend drawing a line with a ruler to cut along so you get a straight edge.

Step three, the final step. Stack your papers together and slip into the cover. They are just like sturdy plastic wallets, so it’s easy to slide the papers in and out. Make sure you know which side is the front and which is the inside. Put the covers on your planner if it makes it easier.

There you go! One set of custom covers all done! Wasn’t that fun! Pro tip, remember to keep the slip in edge on the inside to stop the papers getting wet or damaged. And if you get bored or want to change it up again, you can just make more. You could try using stickers, a large photo or even a painting! Just slip in whatever you fancy. Also, you could use the covers individually inside your planner as plastic wallets for documents or important papers.

And Time!

One super quick planner DIY done and dusted guys! What do you think? Fancy giving it a go? Just look how cute my new peony cover looks on my planner. With those Metallic Gold Discs as well, totally dreamy combo!

And let’s not forget the jazzy contrasting inside stripe!
