Inspired by Notes & Things
You know that feeling you get when you see a new scrapbook collection and know that you have to get your hands on it? Well that was me and the new collection by Crate Paper ‘Notes & Things’. The colours, the sweet embellishments and the gorgeous papers all ‘spoke’ to me, they inspired me to want to create pretty things. For this months blog post I made two layouts and a Project Life spread with the collection which I will share with you here.
First up is a pretty ‘girlie’ layout about a pink vintage bike I saw while on holiday in Majorca. We were walking up the little street to the town square in Pollensa and there it was, oh so pretty with flowers in it’s basket and leaning against a weathered green door. The camera came straight out, a photo was snapped and now a layout is made too!
I used a white piece of cardstock for the background and a piece of Crate Paper ‘Journal’ paper from Notes & Things, you can just see it under the photo. With my base done I placed my main photo on to it and started adding bits and pieces from the Notes & Things mixed tags pack and the accent stickers pack. I’ll be honest here, I’m a procrastinator and a paper pusher. I’m not the type of person who can put something down and leave it. So for me I absolutely love Herma Repositional Adhesive, I can stick something down, change my mind and move it and change my mind again and the adhesive will still work great. Finally, after much aforementioned paper pushing I added a little frame from the lovely Notes & Things ‘chipboard frames’ pack around a cropped shot of the flowers in the basket, some butterflies from the ‘standouts’ pack, a couple of stitched images from the ‘rub-on transfers’ and a title with some thickers.
The above layout was very much a girlie layout, so I made another layout about my son using the muted colours in the collection to show its versatility. The layout idea was actually inspired by a tag in the ‘mixed tag’ pack which had the number 3 on it. I had a lovely photo of my youngest son which I’d taken the same evening as the bike photo. These two things; the tag and the photo of Callum gave me the idea of listing 3 things about him right now.
I love the ‘Noted’ paper with its different coloured file tabs. I decided to cut up and use in a way that gave the 3D appearance of files with foam pads underneath the tabs to raise them up off the page. From there I played around, shuffling and moving things about, tucking tags and stickers under the different ‘files’ until I was happy with the look. Then I attached extra details like bakers twine and rub-on stitching and words, a cute butterfly, a flair and the title.
Other items used on this page were; kraft cardstock, ‘With Love’ paper, a sheet of paper from the 6×6 Notes & Things paper pack and some older Maggie Holmes letter stickers.
Now, I couldn’t leave my Project Life album out, it had to have some of the Notes & Things treatment too.
I used Crate Paper’s Note & Things ‘Journaling Cards’ for my week 34 spread. It was made so easy with the double-sided 4×6 and 3×4 cards that come in the pack. The butterfly card was my hands down favourite and was destined to be my weekly header card!
I used four of the larger 4×6 journaling cards in my spread, plus some trimmed down ‘Inbox’ patterned paper and a card from the Becky Higgins Project Life DIY value kit (I’ve another spread to share using this fantastic value kit below). The smaller 3×4 inserts are all from the Notes & Things ‘Journaling Cards’, love them.
I embellished the spread with letter stickers by Elle’s Studio, stickers from Notes & Things, chipboard thickers, a kraft label, and some Hey Little Magpie exclusive flairs.
And finally I want to share with you one more week from my project life album, week 33.
For this spread I tried out the Becky Higgins Project Life – DIY Value Kit. It’s a very impressive kit containing 180 double-sided cards in both 4×6 and 3×4 sizes, all of which work beautifully together. Seriously, I will could use every single card in this pack and at the amazing price of £9.99 that really is excellent value for money. Every card in the spread above comes from the kit and this is just a little sampling of the range (I like to repeat 4×6 cards in my spread, it’s my ‘thing’). In addition to the DIY kit I’ve used letter stickers by Studio Calico, Pebbles thickers and more of those HLM exclusive flairs – can’t get enough of them!
[For my project life album I use Design A Photo Pocket Pages, grid journaling cards which I trim down and I round the corners of all the cards using the Project Life corner rounder. All of these items are by Becky Higgins.]
