Inspired by Wilna…

I’m sure most of us have scrapbooking idols? I certainly have a few including Wilna Furstenberg.
Her style, for those of you not familiar with it, is very much inspired by art journaling.
Wilna uses patterned paper sparingly, but tends to use plenty of embellishments along with striking cut files, usually in white or black card stock to give a crisp definition to her titles. She’s also not afraid to hand journal on her pages, so although I took on the majority of her key signature style, I had to draw the line at hand journalling!
I predominantly used the new ‘Domestic Bliss’ collection from Simple Stories, along with a few embellishments from Dear Lizzy’s ‘Lovely Day’ range, some gold acrylic mirror stickers from Pinkfresh Studio and a rather stunning alpha from the Maggie Holmes ‘Chasing Dreams’.
This alpha offers both the positive and negative use of each letter, so although it’s more expensive than some of the other alphas, really you’re getting two alphas… And even better, it’s gold!

To follow in true Wilna style, I really had to use one of her cut files, which I backed in one of the 6 x 8″papers!

The phrases in the ‘Domestic Bliss’ collection has me laughing out loud… After all who wouldn’t chuckle at a journalling card that read “put your laundry away or I’ll punch you in the face”.
Ironically it seemed so apt to use, as the photos bring back such lovely, yet fraught memories of a tandem ride across the Brooklyn Bridge on New Years’ Day 2016! It was complete chaos and Harvey, who was of course in front and in charge of steering lost his cool on many occasions during the ride!

The rabbit ephemera reminded me of the phrase ‘pigs might fly’ and along with the journalling spot ‘the struggle is real’ and ‘I put the mess in domestic’ sticker, this collection was made for these photos!

How stunning are those Pinkfresh mirror stickers?
Equally, this is the first time ever that I have worked simultaneously on two different pages – whether this was due to the time it took to let the painted background dry, or simply because I wasn’t starting with a white 12 x 12″ blank canvas, I felt liberated!

Initially when I first saw the Domestic Bliss collection, I thought why would I want to scrapbook a picture of me cleaning? It’s a rarity, I’ll admit but even so…
But dig deep and you might just find some epic photos, such as this pair taken when we spent a week in the Lake District in a yurt! It was a fabulous week and just that bit more luxurious than camping.

Gotta love the faces Nina was pulling!

I totally fell in love with the parakeet or budgie embellishment from the Dear Lizzy range – it’s darn cute! And again, I couldn’t agree more with the Domestic Bliss sentiment on the journalling card!

The chipboard hoover and the word phrases summed up the basic amenities that we had and indeed our daily chores, but I wouldn’t change that holiday in any way!
