In my 'Heart' a Collection by Simple Stories
Hi Magpies, Niki here today with the Simple Stories Heart collection. I love these little mini collections from Simple Stories, I believe they simply have papers and a few stickers, no embellishments as in the usual collections but I’m a paper girl and am also drowning in other embellishments anyway so this was good for me. The Heart collection is supposed to be about scrapping a loved one who you have lost. I am lucky in that I have never lost anyone significant from my life and therefore I did not want the collection for that purpose. I could have let this put me off but I was drawn to the colours and I carefully studied the papers before buying them to establish whether they were generic enough for me to use. They were. The full 12×12 sheets are gorgeous and are not themed at all. The only themed papers were the cut apart sheets, and again I decided they I could use enough of each sheet and they were therefore worthwhile buying.
For this Under the Sea layout I used one of the papers, which I mounted on an older gold woodgrain speciality paper by Pebbles. I drew the fishscale pattern onto the paper using my Silhouette sketch pens and then I began building my layout. All the small papers on there are from the cut apart sheets and there’s a Carpe Diem frame in there too. I added the two mermaids and the gold shells (cut on my die-cutting machine) and I cut the title too. I used a lot of the Expressions Stickers on this layout, so many were totally generic and worked with my layout.
Again for So Brave I mosty used the small pieces from the cut apart sheets to add detail to my layout. I’ve cut out a few elements and used more of the stickers: Fundamentals and Expressions. The Thickers are We R Memory Keepers Crush.
For Mousecapades I created my own background by adding Gelatos and paint to a white sheet of card, I then cut a circles grid on my machine which I layered over the top. The striped back sheet is one of the Heart papers, it had a gold heart on it which I cut out prior to using it. Again all the bits are from the cut apart sheets with a Carpe Diem frame thrown in too.
I really loved the stars side of the ‘Love you’ paper but it was a little too dark for my usual style, so I needed to add some lighter layers. I have used torn paper strips agaim (a technique I’m loving at the moment) and then added my photo on top and I was able to journal on the white card. I’ve also used some Carpe Diem frames more stickers from the Fundamentals and Expressions sheets.
