I Love Aruba Scrapbook LAyout – Vicki Boutin Design – Sunset Beach Club Collection – Wendy Meffan

One of the highlights of my trip to Aruba was stopping for a photo at the iconic “I Love Aruba” sign, so I knew it deserved its own scrapbook layout. To document this special memory, I used the beautiful Vicki Boutin Sunset Beach Club collection, which perfectly captures the vibrant colours and relaxed tropical feel of the island.

I started with a single 3×4 photo as my focal point and built plenty of layers behind it using pieces from the Journalling Ephemera, Laser Cuts, and Icon Ephemera packs. Layering these elements together adds depth and interest while helping to draw the eye straight to the photo.

For the background, I tore irregular strips from several of the 12×12 patterned papers and arranged them down both sides of the layout. I also used two edge strips down each side of  the torn paper. This simple technique frames the page beautifully while allowing the colourful papers to shine and creates the perfect foundation for the rest of the design.

Once the paper strips were in place, I added some mixed media using Ranger Ink Distress Oxides in Scattered Straw and Seedless Preserves. I created a smooshed background, allowing the inks to blend naturally and peek through the layers. The warm yellow and rich purple tones add a playful splash of colour while complementing the papers without overwhelming the overall design.

To soften the layout and add balance, I created floral and mixed embellishment clusters in diagonal corners of the page, as well as around the photo. Repeating these clusters helps guide your eye across the layout and creates a cohesive flow from one corner to the next, while the layered ephemera adds plenty of dimension and detail.

This layout captures not only a favourite holiday photo but also the colourful, carefree atmosphere of Aruba. The Sunset Beach Club collection was the perfect choice for preserving this happy travel memory, and I’m so pleased with how all the layers, colour, and texture came together.
