Horizon by Paige Evans (Part 1) Philippa McCray

Hi there Magpies, Philippa with you today sharing two 12 x 12 layouts using the gorgeous Horizon collection. I particularly love the pretty florals in the Mixed Floral Die Cut pack and wanted to make them the main feature of my first layout.

I decided to add some hand stitching for texture so selected a variety of embroidery threads in coordinating colours and happily sat embellishing the individual flowers and leaves using a mix of back stitch and French knots! I usually choose to work on a white background but for this layout I felt that the flowers worked well against the blue background (reverse) of Paper 21

I do love a bit of mixed media so having put a light layer of white acrylic paint on the page I added some watercolour splatters before positioning the flowers in a sweep around two sides of the page. I added some of the Die cut ephemera elements behind my photo and fussy cut a few butterflies and dragonflies from a paper in the 6 x 8 Paper Pad and popped those amongst the flowers & foliage! The ‘family’ and ‘is here with you’ sentiments are from the Puffy Phrase and Icons sheet.

My second layout was inspired by a recent holiday on the coast. Each morning I went for a walk along the front and stopped for my first cuppa of the day at Suzi’s Beach Cafe. Each table had fresh flowers on it and it was so peaceful just sitting listening to the waves and gathering my thoughts whilst looking out to the far horizon! Great way to start the day.

I created a wash of watercolour on white cardstock to represent the sea and sky and positioned a diagonal piece of Paper 24 as my tablecloth! I cut the white jug freehand and as Paper 21 reminded me of Delft pottery I added a decorative band around the centre. My flowers and leaves are a mix of freehand cut shapes, die cuts (using dies from my collection) and flowers created using the petal shapes from Paper 12 and papers from the 6 x 8 Paper Pad.

I was pleased with how this turned out and hope I might have inspired you to do a bit of paper collage!

Some of the items I used are currently out of stock but hopefully they will be restocked in the future, you might even have them in your stash already just waiting to be used!

I’ll be back later in the month with two more projects using this gorgeous collection. Until then Happy scrapping!
