Hello Today 2021 Calendar | Jo Boland

Hello there, Jo here with my first DT project for Hey Little Magpie in 2021 and what’s more appropriate than a calendar? This month I’m using the new Simple Stories Hello Today collection. This collection is full of cut apart papers, stickers and die-cuts for the whole year and in a gorgeous colour palette too.

2020 Calendar – Elle’s Studio

Last year I made a desk calendar with Elle’s Studio products, you can find that post here. Here’s a quick look at it below. I’ve used an Ikea phone holder for the stand. It has sat on my window sill at eye level in front of my desk all year. I’ve found it really useful to glance at for dates. So, when I saw this new Hello Today collection my first thought was to make a calendar for 2021!

Elle’s Studio brought out a pack of 2021 calendar cards, unfortunately they are out of stock at the moment, but if you happened to have already bought them this could be a good project to do.

2021 Calendar – Simple Stories Hello Today

And here is my new 2021 calendar!

Each of the Hello Today 12×12 papers is a cut apart sheet which includes a 3×4 calendar card with the month at the top. Unfortunately it’s not year specific so I got out some stamps from my stash and a grey ink pad. I added the day letter to the top of the calendar and the year at the bottom. To be honest, I needn’t have bothered with the year as it’s hidden by the stand. Each calendar card is adhered at an angle to a 4×6 card also cut from the sheet. I mixed some of these up so not every one is from the same month paper. A simple embellishment of a puffy sticker and a decorative brad sticker, along with a photo from that month in 2020 and it’s complete. (There were only 10 little brad stickers in the pack, so I added two circle puffy stickers from Elle’s Studio)

Scrapbook Layout – Bridgerton

For my second project I wanted to make a layout using more of the embellishments in the collection. I sat with the collection on my desk and a blank sheet of cardstock in front of me. I just didn’t know what to document. Netflix was on my laptop and I became engrossed in watching Bridgerton. Well nothing was achieved on my desk, but I did manage to binge watch the entire series in 3 days. So it seemed fitting to do a layout on that, Bridgerton. One of the 3×4 cut apart papers (September) had a journaling card to document ‘life right now’ and a ‘watching’ check box – perfect!

I downloaded a poster image from the internet and used two papers from the 6×8 paper pad to mount the photo on. Unfortunately, the poster had purple on it, a colour not featured in the collection. To combat this I made a mixed media background using white acrylic paint, Distress Oxide spray inks in Broken China, Peacock Feathers and Seedless Preserves. I also added some gold texture paste from my stash (but here’s a gold glaze you could use instead). The layout is a little warped as I used normal kraft cardstock and didn’t apply gesso. However, a night under a heavy book has flattened it good enough.

The centre of the blue paper has been gutted because the reverse side had butterflies and a floral cluster. I fussy cut these, using the butterflies as embellishments on foam pads and the floral cluster under the journaling card. I’ve embellished the layout with foam stickers, chipboard stickers, cardstock stickers, die-cut pieces and a word sticker form the sticker book.

You can find the complete collection in the Hey Little Magpie shop here. See you later in the month with more inspiration!
