Heart of Home
Hi Magpies!
This month I chose to work a little outside of my comfort zone, because I couldn’t resist the prettiness of Jen Hadfield’s new collection for Pebbles – Heart of Home. I am usually drawn to bright colours and bold designs, but the beautiful florals and soft tones of this collection really drew me in. I will admit to being a little bit daunted by the box of goodies that arrived on my doorstep – such elegance! This collection would work with plenty of different themes – family, baby, christenings, weddings to name a few.
I started with a baby photo – my daughter’s first monthly photo – her one month record. I have scrapped photos from this occasion before, with lots of journaling, so this time I chose to simply add the bare minimum identifiers instead of lots of writing. I added in some kraft cardstock with gold glitter dots (from Pebbles Merry Merry), and white/gold glitter thickers (from Hustle & Heart by Amy Tangerine for American Crafts) to my supplies and set about arranging die cuts and stickers around my photo in a circle. The thickers are just gorgeous, with one page of white foam and one page of gold glitter foam – they are arranged in pre-existing phrases, but I mixed them up to create my own title. I also added a few pearls from my stash, and some wooden hearts.
I had something in mind for my next page, and that was using the ‘mother’, ‘father’, ‘sister’, ‘brother’ squares on the cut apart sheet. For that, I had to go and find a family photo from back when we were just 4, rather than 5! I found the perfect shot – soon after we arrived home with baby number 2. Apart from my son’s turquoise shorts, there wasn’t much colour in the photo that would clash either, so I was pleased with that stroke of luck! I trimmed my photo to 4×4″ and created a grid using the cut aparts and some patterned paper squares. On top of these I layered die cuts and stickers and tapes (the tapes in this collection are so lovely – especially those golden butterflies!), along with my big title from the Thickers sheet. The gold foil labels are a great buy – you get 44 in the pack! I also fell in love with the layered, dimensional stickers – so pretty.
I hope you enjoy these pages, and take inspiration to cut into things you don’t think fit your usual style!
Until next time,
