Heart and Home – Part One | Amy Kattenbelt
Happy New Year Magpies, Today I am sharing two layouts that use the lovely little collection by Photoplay Paper called Heart and Home. Within the collection there are 6 double sided patterned papers, an ephemera pack, a 12×12 sticker sheet and there is also a co-ordinating stamp set too. The collection is full of warm rich colours and variety of icons focused around being cosy and all the little home comforts that have become oh so important to us this year. Its actually a pretty versatile collection though, as I hope you will in the layouts I have created.
Layout 1 – 2020
For my first layout I paired the Heart and Home collection with the Simple Stories Color Vibe Alpha Sticker book in ‘Bold’. If you havent already heard me saying, these have fast become one of my favourite scrapbooking products. I knew I wanted to create a simple yet eyecatching layout for these photos, with a really long title.
I used the diagonally striped paper called ‘Linens‘ as my background, placing a piece of white cardstock (cut to 11″ square) on top.
My title was added down the centre of the layout using lots of different colours and fonts from the aforementioned sticker book. I then placed my largest square photo central to the page, and added a slightly smaller square photo to either side. The key to this layout is balance, keeping things very symmetrical down the vertical central line.
The word ‘HOME’ in my title is from the Heart and Home’s 12×12 sticker sheet. I love the pretty subtle floral pattern on the letters. Then I added some die cuts and stickers, following my symmetry rule. I placed two of the floral stickers either side of my title, then two heart stickers and two candle stickers. Below the photos I added two vases of flowers, one of these is from the sticker sheet and the other I fussy cut from a ephemera piece.
Lastly I finished the layout off with two rainbows from the Elle’s Studio Autumn Rainbow Puffy Stickers, above and below my long title. I think I am going to use this layout as the title layout in my 2020 album.
Layout 2 – Cozy Up With A Good Book
Having created one simple yet eye-catching layout, I decided I wanted to create a second layout along the same ideas. But this time I decided to create a Sunburst using all the pretty patterned papers from the collection.
I find the simplest way to create sunburst patterns is to take a piece of scrap 12×12 paper or card, and draw out the design. Then number each triangle, cut them out and use them as a template when cutting out your patterned papers. I tried to get a nice balance between the tone on tone papers and the multicoloured paper designs. Once I had my sunburst design on the top half of my layout I used the long blue sticker at its edge.
I then added my photo, which I had already matted to white card, to the centre of the layout. A little secret – this also covered up the imperfections where all my triangles didn’t quite meet perfectly! The title was created by fussy cutting the banners and phrase out of the paper called ‘Cozy‘. I added a few stickers and ephemera die cuts that were book themed.
I finished the layout by adding the scalloped rainbow striped sticker along the bottom edge, added two more book themed stickers and stamping the date.
Thank you for coming and taking a closer look at my layouts. They really are quite simple to recreate, so feel free to scraplift them and share them on the Hey Little Magpie Facebook Group with us. I will be back with a few more layouts created with Heart and Home later in the month, the next two layouts have a slightly different vibe to them. In the meantime, Stay Safe and Take Care,
