Happy Cake Day | Pebbles | Morag Cutts
Hey Magpies, I hope that the weather has been kind to you. The inclement weather is a good excuse to stay in and scrap. I have two very different scrapbook layouts to share with you today.
Happy Cake Day
For my first layout I have used the uber-cute Happy Cake Day collection. I bought the stickers stickers and die-cuts packs so I had loads of cute little pieces to play with.
To begin, I used Distress Oxide inks (Worn Lipstick, Fossilized Amber) to add some colour to white card stock. I then lightly stamped randomly to add a little more interest.
I mixed in the stickers with the die-cuts adding some to foam tape. I tucked in some gems and sequins to the party vibe. I really like to use letter stickers for my title in this way – it makes a nice change from straight and organised titles!
I added another cluster of stickers and die-cuts on the right hand side. By overlapping them, it brings them altogether.
I die-cut some balloons from patterned papers – Yay, Cake Day, Happy Birthday. To add more depth to the balloons, I also created a stencil by die-cutting scrap card and using the negative. I blended inks and then traced around the edges with grey fineliner pen. I drew on the strings and bows before layering up the die-cut balloons. I finished off with more tiny stars.
This is Us | Honey & Spice
My next layout is completely different – I have used Honey & Spice collection by Heidi Swapp. It is a collection I had overlooked originally, but when I saw it in real life, I really fell in love with the dramatic colours and flowers.
I have used the Harmony paper as my background – the dramatic green paper really makes everything pop. I made a tear down the centre and roughed the edges. By curling them back it left enough space for a photo. I then sewed below to ‘lace up’ the two edges.
I fussy cut the flowers and used some of the ephemera pieces to layer and add interest.
I like to add other interesting elements when I can, so I die cut a tiny envelope to add to the cluster around my photograph.
I really love how this layout came about from a collection that I had completely overlooked. I do hope that I have inspired you to take a second look at collections – you never know what you will find!
Thanks for stopping by.
