Happiness – Cocoa Vanilla Studio
Hi Magpies, Caroline back with you again today. This month I’ve been creating with Cocoa Vanilla Studio’s new collection Happiness. It is an absolutely gorgeous collection. I was immediately drawn to the beautiful bright colours and the watercolour feel when I saw it for the first time and couldn’t wait to get stuck in.
Love This Beautiful Island Paradise
When starting a new page, my go to background is usually a piece of white cardstock. However, for my first layout this week I choose to use a patterned paper background instead. I loved the ombre fade from green to blue of the B side of the Frame of Mind paper and just had to use it with my beach photos.
I matted my photos onto white card. Then picked two patterns from the 6 x 8 Paper Pad, to layer up behind them. I cut two small pieces of the blue paper. Which I positioned so that it looked like one long strip of paper. I cut an L shaped piece of the heart paper to tuck under the right hand corner of the photo mat. Cutting my paper this way, means that I can not only stretch my supplies, but also it stops the layout from getting too bulky.
As my photos and the background paper, were appearing a bit too green/blue I chose to add pink as an accent colour. I added a subtle dot pattern to the page using a stencil and Pickled Raspberry Distress Oxide. Positioning it so that the pattern appears from under the photos. I then carried the pink through into my embellishments and the title.
I decided early on that I wanted to use the “beautiful” cardstock word from the Die Cut Titles pack as part of my title. Placing the die cut word to the right of the photos first, I then built my title up around it. I added a mixture of Thickers from the Stay Sweet Collection and small tile letter stickers to do this.
The 6 x 8 paper pad has a smaller version of the Little Things cut apart sheet. This includes some label pieces, which I used as the base for my embellishment clusters. I placed these clusters in three separate areas around the page. Creating a visual triangle across the photos and title. Adding a die cut flower from the Die Cut Ephemera pack and a word or phrase to each cluster.
I finished the page by adding my journaling to the bottom right of the page below the title.
Fun Moments With You
My second layout was inspired by the “making memories with you is my favourite thing to do” card cut from the Little Things paper from the 6×8 paper pad.
I selected four 3 x 2 photos to use on my layout, which I felt represented this phrase. The photos were taken at different times, so I chose to convert them to black and white. This meant that I didn’t feel tied to any particular colour on the page. Also it prevents any colours in the photos clashing.
I matted my photos and the phrase on a long strip of white card. Keeping it slightly shorter than the width of the page. I then moved on to choosing my background and which patterned papers to layer up behind my photos. I loved the beautiful soft watercolour frame on the B side of the Sprinkes paper and chose that for my background. Cutting a thin strip from the Expressive paper and two thicker strips from the B side of the So Fresh paper for the layering.
I stencilled a simple triangle pattern on the top left and bottom right of the page with Distress Oxides. Then added a number of the paint effect Clear Stickers to three areas of the page. Along with some of the clear heart stickers. I thought these worked perfectly as they repeated the watercolour effect from the frame and brought it to the centre of the page.
Next I added my title under the photos, using the “fun moments” phrase from the clear sticker sheet and some of the Stay Sweet Thickers. I kept my embellishment simple, adding clusters at opposite corners of the photo mat. Using a die cut flag, some word stickers from the Accessory Sticker sheet and a Flair Button.
I finished the page by numbering each photo with clear stickers. Then adding journaling to the top right corner, noting when and where each photo was taken.
I have really enjoyed working with this bright, beautiful collection and I’m looking forward to sharing more later in the month. You can find the Happiness collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio here.
Thank you for joining me today, see you next time.
