Happiest | Vicki Boutin – Discover + Create
Hello Magpies. Amy here sharing another layout created using Vicki Boutin’s new collection called “Discover + Create“. Its such a fun versatile collection full of wonderful colours and icons.
Happiest – Hadrian’s Wall
So I will let you into a secret. I didn’t like my mixed media background on this layout. But I persevered with it, and in the end I love the layout. I used distress oxide in the middle of some white cardstock, making large are (the part I ended up covering up as I didn’t like it). I then used one of the stencil sets from the collection to add some inked details around the edges of the mixed media. It just pokes out so was worth doing even if I was initially unhappy with it.
To cover up the mixed media part I didn’t like I actually used one of the packaging pieces from the Stencil sets. Its a 3 tone blue A5 sized piece of card. Vicki always pays a lot of attention to making as much of her collection useable and this is just one example. Its was so pretty and just the effect I had wanted to achieve with my inks. I distressed the edges of this piece of card to add some texture.
I then used the Fractioned Film Reel die with black card. I Stuck these around my layout. I used what I think was probably intended as a throw away piece in the paperie pack to mount my photo on. Its a simple white oval with a black border. It was originally the inner piece to a frame ephemera die cut. Bit I liked it just helped draw your attention to the photo instead of the photo getting lost in the background layers.
I fussy cut some of the flowers from the paper called “Fresh Air“. I used mostly the blue shaded flowers, but love the pop of colour he orange and yellow added to the layout. The inspired me to add a few more orange pieces so I added a Good Days Ahead banner to the bottom of my photo and a HLM orange fabric camera flair.
I added the vellum ephemera piece that says ‘Happiest’. I thought the blues matched well. I then added a sub title of the place and date the photo was taken. For this I used Bella Blvd Florence alphabet stickers in Black.
Lastly I added a strip of striped paper to the left hand edge to help balance the layout. I added some fun little die cut pieces to the layout and finished it by added some black with gold star tiny stickers.
Thanks for coming to take a closer look at my layout. I hope this has been useful to help you find ways to turn something you think you may not like into something that you actually love. Keep going and play with the layout and your stash, and if in double add layers and cover up the parts you really don’t feel are working!
Take Care,
