Grid designs using 5th & Monaco
Hey Magpies! Hope everyone is safe and well out there. I’m back with more lush 5th & Monaco by Pink Paislee.
My last blog post I was doing layouts using mostly the Ephemera Die Cuts pack. This time I have done some grid design LO’s. I do love a grid LO, it’s always a really simple and effective design tool and I turn to grids a lot. If you’re ever stuck in your scrapping, start with a photo and start building a grid around it. It’s a nice and easy way to start a LO off. That’s exactly what I did here, I started building a grid around my photo and ended up with an empty hole and luckily, I found a title word that fit perfectly in the space!
When I purchase a collection, I usually buy a couple of sheets of any cut apart papers, like Paper 1, I bought a few sheets of that as I also loved the striped side. I also got one sheet of the Foiled Speciality Paper and I sat and cut those sheets apart immediately. Then I started building a LO. I definitely wanted to use the ‘right here’ and the ‘unforgettable’ cards from the Speciality Paper as they were my favourites so I started with them. The LO just built up from there, picking a few pieces that fit and then to bulk out the design beside the journalling card I added some pink washi and a line of Nuvo Dots as well. I also added some extra lines of washi from the Washi Tape Set under my grid and held them down with some tiny staples. If you’re buying the 5th & Monaco collection you should definitely check out the Bloom Street collection by Paige Evans. It’s also Pink Paislee and I think a lot of the bits mix together well. My title here is from the Bloom Street Phrase Thickers and it looks like it’s the same shade of pink!
When you get stuck for a LO, try a grid design next time. Just get your photo and cut a piece of patterned paper the same size. Then build a grid around that. Even a photo and 3 pieces of patterned paper cut to the same size and placed in a grid. You’re on your way to finished that simply & easily!
I absolutely loved Paper 10 in the 5th & Monaco collection, it’s a beautiful floral on one side and then the other is a black and white speckled pattern which I found super versatile as well. I had the offcut which I’ve used on this LO and I really wanted to use it so I started this LO with that pink floral behind my photo. I was building my LO with just that side of patterned paper but then I decided to see what would work beside it to make a grid and I loved Paper 5 with the black spot and florals in diagonal corners. So I was brave and I cut it up to fit my design lol! That is how this LO came together. I just padded out my grid design with some Washi Tape and some Nuvo Dots. A couple of stickers from the 6×12 Sticker Sheet plus a Puffy Sticker and I was finished.
I will be back again next month with four more layouts using the lovely 5th & Monaco collection from Pink Paislee. I hope all you Magpies are safe and well and I’ll see in you May!
