Simple Stories Vintage Great Escape – Amy Kattenbelt
Hello Magpies, Amy here today to share with you two layouts I have made using the stunning Simple Stories Vintage Great Escape collection. This collection is woodland nature themed. There are beautiful images of fern leaves, mushrooms and toadstools, dragonflies and butterflies amongst other things. There are also plenty of map and woodgrain patterns. One thing I really enjoyed whilst using the collection, was all the layered elements. It made the layouts come together really easily, and it was super fun to add extra stickers and layers to those with the collection. The collection is really great for all the photos I have been taking lately whilst walking in the local countryside, as well as older photos taken in woodland.
Layout 1 – Wains Hill
For this layout I used the B side of the 4×4 cut apart paper as my background. It is a lovely soft tone of eggshell blue with a map pattern. I also used a strip of map patterned paper along the bottom of paper, this was the B side of 2×2 cut apart paper.
I used one of the chipboard frames with my photo. These frames are probably one of my favourite items in the collection, along with the sticker book. To personalise it I added some extra stickers, using foam squares for extra dimension. I also added elements to the top and right hand side of the frame.
I created two more clustered of embellishments, one to the lower right of the photo, using some patterned papers, a 2×2 square cut apart and some stickers.
The third cluster was created down in the bottom left of the layout. I also added the title and date to this area. The Simple Stories foam alphabet stickers in green are a perfect match for this collection. I finished off the layout with a few heart die cuts and stickers.
Holterberg
For this layout I used a tonal polka dot patterned paper, called Made To Wander as my background. I added some stamping in green and brown ink using the collection’s stamp set. I used two of the fern leaf stamps and also the dragonfly, mushrooms and birds stamp. I really love how it added so much interest to the background.
I used two patterned papers from the 6×8 paper pad for the central area of the design, the mushroom patterned paper and the fern patterned paper. I created these into an 8 inch square and used brown thread to stitch around the edge. I used another of the chipboard frames to layer over my photo, and also I fussy cut a layered element from another 6×8 patterned paper, I then had fun adding extra stickers to build up layers and added interest. This time I edged all the stickers in a brown ink so they really blended together.
I added small embellishment clusters to the top left corner of my 8 inch square and also the lower right hand side. I tried to include a little of a red in each area to tie it all together and give a pop of colour.
I added my title using the deep red alphabet stickers from the Simple Stories Bold Alphas Sticker Book, again a great match to the collection. I also added the date with the little tile alpha stickers from the same book. These books are really great value as you get 3 alphabet fonts in 8 different colours per book.
I finished off the layout by attaching 9 of the decorative brads to my layout, 3 in each embellishment cluster. They really add an extra special something and lots of dimension to the finished layout.
Thanks for taking the time to have a closer look at my layouts. I will be sharing some more layouts using this collection in a few weeks time. In the meantime why not pop over to the Hey Little Magpie Facebook group to share with us your creations.
