Glitter Girl – by Shimelle for American Crafts
Hello Magpies! This month I was very excited to be able to order a big box full of Glitter Girl supplies – the new collection from Shimelle for American Crafts. Without doubt this is my favourite collection in a long while – full of bright colours and fun icons, and with lots of new and different ideas too. There’s holographic finishes, lenticular shapes and shaker stickers alongside longer term favourites like glitter phrase Thickers, enamel shapes, washi tapes and beautiful papers. You can find the whole collection here:
When it came to making my second page I wanted to use these photos of my daughter having fun with face filters on my phone. She had just discovered the ability to make herself into an animal using the selfie camera and was just loving it! These are fun, whimsical photos, and the collection is just perfect for anything along those lines. That rainbow paper is my absolute favourite – so pretty! I used a shaker sticker and a lenticular on this page – both are tricky to capture properly in a still image! The lenticular says “Make your dreams real”, which seemed apt for this page, and the words appear/disappear depending on the angle you hold it at. The shaker stickers are all squishy and tactile – a really lovely and unique addition.
Next up I chose to scrap one of the moments that had come straight to mind when I first saw this line – meeting Rapunzel at Disneyland earlier in the year. Perhaps it was the inclusion of purple in the collection, which is not particularly often seen, or the phrase ” Today is the best ever” which comes close to a line in the film “Best. Day. Ever!” that made me instantly link this photo to these products, I don’t really know. What I do know, is that I started this page with quite a minimal idea – four 6×6″ pieces of paper as a background, photo crossing the centre line, and a couple of areas of embellishment. It was when I started the embellishing that I got really carried away, and ended up just throwing everything on this page! Every time I thought I was done I spotted something else – a gap that needed filling or another sticker that was perfect! I had a lot of fun with this.
Here’s that link again to the products:
